Turzai Asks GOP Committee Members for Support

Mike Turzai logoState House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) sent a letter to Republican State Committee members telling them he is seriously considering a run for Governor.

“I’m writing today because I’m seriously considering a run for Governor of Pennsylvania. I hope to make my formal announcement in the summer or early fall,” Turzai says in the letter.

In the letter, Turzai lays out success he has had during his time in office, mainly during his tenure as Majority Leader and then as Speaker.

“As Majority Leader, I made sure the GOP hit the ground running, with a pro-growth and pro-jobs agenda that delivered balanced, on-time budgets that reflected our shared values,” he says in the letter.

Turzai took the chance in the letter to take a veiled swipe at state Senator and Gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner (R-York).

“Unlike others, I have been carrying the Republican agenda for more than a decade. I don’t need focus groups to tell me where my principles are. And I’m not trying to buy this election with my own money,” the letter reads.

Wagner, the only candidate officially in the race, reported loaning his campaign $4 million already.

Allegheny county businessman Paul Mango is expected to announce his candidacy on Wednesday.  Former Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, and Congressman Mike Kelly (R-Butler) are also rumored to be weighing a bid for Governor.  House Majority Leader Dave Reed recently announced he will not be seeking statewide office next year.

  1. If it weren’t for Turzai, the rest of the House would have caved and given Wolf the tax increases he wanted. Love him or hate him, but at budget time, Turzai seems to be the only adult in the room.

  2. Mike Turzai knows how to get things done and isn’t afraid to do what it takes like all the pussies in Harrisburg.

  3. Turdseye doesn’t have a chance. Number one issue? Gas tax. Number two? Property tax. Bad on both…turdseye.

  4. “Unlike others, I have been carrying the Republican agenda for more than a decade.

What is that agenda – Kill the middle class and bankrupt the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If you’ve been carrying that water for a decade, YOU’VE BEEN IN HARRISBURG TOO LONG. GET OUT

  5. I will support you mike but i’m hoping for you will be a great potential governor by then.

  6. I like Turzai because its funny to look at someone whose face is frozen with the look of a man attempting to hold in a shart. Not sure if its a fart, not sure if its poop but definitely not worth testing it.

  7. A turd by any other name smells just as…okay, you know where I’m going here. This is a B.S. Play by turds-eye to pump his bonus when he finally sells the state’s liqour stores to Moe’s Discount Liquors. It’s a phony money play, befitting and benefitting the phony that he is.

  8. This is the GOP.

Look how much money rich people will give me.

Don’t look at what I’ve done to help the working class (because it is literally nothing).

  9. Turds-eye wants to promote the failed GOP economic policies that are anti-jobs and anti-growth, but are about higher profits for a few big players at the top in a pyramid scheme called “trickle down”.

  10. Go Mike, go! PA needs a strong challenge to Wolf in 2018 and a principled conservative like Turzai is exactly what PA Republicans need.
