TV Battle Commences in Top PA Senate Race (Watch Videos)

The '80s were an awkward time for everyone

Both sides are on the air in the race to replace retiring Sen. Jane Earll (R-Erie).

The campaign pits economic development executive and Republican Janet Anderson against hospital executive and Democrat Sean Wiley. Each candidate is on local broadcast (which is relatively affordable in the small Erie market) and cable.

The district, which contains the city of Erie, is the Dems’ best chance to pick up a PA Senate seat. It leans in favor of a generic Dem by double digits and is likely to go for Obama, too. That said, Earll’s brand of moderate Republicanism – which Anderson is working hard to channel – has been very successful.

Above is Wiley’s first ad, which went on the air Monday. It’s a playful spot that emphasizes his Erie roots (and stylish high school fashion). It was produced by Devine Mulvey, a DC-based form that has also done work for PA Sens. Judy Schwank and Tim Solobay, as well as former Reps. Kathy Dahlkemper (of Erie) and Chris Carney.

Wiley spent thirteen years in the building material industry before taking the position of Director of Administration of Erie County. He’s currently the Director of the Saint Vincent Foundation.

Anderson’s latest spot continues her emphasis on job creation (following this ad, which aired last week). It was produced by Red Maverick Media in Harrisburg and Cicero Media in DC.

She was a staffer in the Ridge administration, worked for Sen. Earll, and most recently was the Executive Director of the Northwest Regional Planning and Development Commission.
