Candidates vying to succeed Allyson Schwartz in PA-13 are keeping up the endorsement race, with both Marjorie Margolies and Brendan Boyle picking up support this week.

Margolies, who is seeking to return to Washington after serving one term from 1993-95, received an endorsement from State Senator Shirley Kitchen Wednesday morning.

“Marjorie’s fight for women’s health clinics in Conshohocken and to lower infant mortality rates in Norristown mirror my own efforts in the State Senate to pass the Pennsylvania Health Center and Clinic Act to improve the quality of care in Pennsylvania’s local health centers and health care clinics,” Sen. Kitchen said in the endorsement. “I am confident that Marjorie, with her experience in Congress and the relationships she has forged and maintained over the past two decades, will hit the ground running when she returns to Washington.”

Kitchen, whose senate district includes part of PA-13, has served in the State Senate since 1996.

State Rep. Boyle (D-Phila) also got in the endorsement game this week, picking up support from the American Postal Workers Union Local 7048. It’s the 18th labor group to back him.

“Postal workers across the nation provide a vital service, a service that more and more Americans are realizing as the postal service faces cutbacks, closures and reduced services,” Boyle said. “When elected to Congress I will stand for the rights of postal workers and for the interests of taxpayers by ensuring we continue the legacy of the postal service.”

Boyle was elected in 2008 and is currently serving his 3rd term in the House.

So far, four candidates are actively campaigning for the safely Democratic seat: Margolies, Boyle, physician and health care activist Valerie Arkoosh, and State Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Montco). While Margolies might have the name advantage, she finished last in second quarter fundraising, with Boyle coming in above her at third in the four-person race.
