Unions Air Fiscal Cliff Ads in Fitz & Meehan Districts

Labor unions want to put two Pa. Republicans on notice. AFSCME, SEIU and the NEA are airing radio ads telling Reps. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) and Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) to support a debt deal rather than go over the “fiscal cliff.”

Pa. is $70K of the $300K It’s part of a multi-state TV and radio buy aimed at moderate Republicans. The 60 second spot doesn’t criticize either man. Instead, it implores them.

“Middle class families can’t afford that. And our economy can’t afford that, either,” the narrator says of the fiscal cliff, a package of tough spending cuts and tax increases triggered automatically as of Jan. 1.

“Congress should act quickly to preserve the middle class tax cuts. And that will take leaders willing to put people ahead of partisan politics. Leaders like Congressmen Pat Meehan and Mike Fitzpatrick.”

“Congressman Meehan is committed to working towards a bipartisan agreement that protects middle class families from tax hikes and avoids the dangerous fiscal cliff. Congressman Meehan has a long record of ‘putting people ahead of partisan politics’ and he will continue to do so,” said spokeswoman Maureen Keith.

The video above includes the ad. Here’s the full ad script:

There’s a debate going on in Washington about the best way to move the country forward and reduce the deficit.

But there’s one thing that both parties can agree on:

We shouldn’t raise taxes on the middle class.

But if Congress fails to act soon, that’s exactly what will happen.

Because if Congress fails to act by the end of the year, everyone’s taxes will automatically go up – including the ninety-eight percent of Americans who make less than two-hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year.

Middle class families can’t afford that. And our economy can’t afford that, either.

Congress should act quickly to preserve the middle class tax cuts.

And that will take leaders willing to put people ahead of partisan politics.

Leaders like Congressmen Pat Meehan and Mike Fitzpatrick.

Call Congressman/woman XXX and XXX at NUMBER and urge them to preserve the middle class tax cuts.

Because working families can’t wait.

  1. Maybe if the Unions spent there money on their membership rather than on Political ads they would be in better shape? Labor Unions were created to protect the workers rights not get people elected. maybe this is the reason for declining Union Membership?

  2. I support going off the cliff. The tax increases and spending cuts are going to eventually happen. I wish someone had the guts to actually support it.

  3. Ironically it is the three largest public sector unions whose members will suffer under the automatic spending cuts.

But they have no vested interest in increasing taxes and preventing much needed spending reductions.

  4. Umm democratic gal, honey, the election is over and Critz lost. Really dear, winning gracefully and with class is a piece of the puzzle you just don’t have. You look and sound like a a scorned lover
