Mark Critz picked up a big endorsement Wednesday from one of the state’s most prominent labor unions.

The United Steelworkers, headquartered in Pittsburgh, threw their support behind the former Congressman.

“During his time in Congress, Critz demonstrated his commitment to manufacturing and family-sustaining jobs” the USW said in a press release. “When Critz’s district was redrawn, the middle class lost a reliable ally in Washington, but now he has a chance to once again serve the hard-working people of Pennsylvania.”

Keystone Politics first reported the news.

“I am proud to once again receive the United Steelworkers as I have in all of my other campaigns,” Critz said. “Creating jobs and strengthening the middle class were my number one priorities in Congress and that will remain the case should I be fortunate to serve as Lieutenant Governor.”

In previous campaigns Critz has been backed by a range of labor groups, including the USW, who provided grassroots support.

The USW represents about 850,000 workers in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean in a wide variety of industries, ranging from glassmaking to mining, steel, oil, paper, tire and rubber to the public sector, service and healthcare industries.

Critz’s announced opponents in the race include Harrisburg city official Brenda Alton, Harrisburg City Councilman Brad Koplinski and Bradford County Commissioner Mark Smith. State Sen. Larry Farnese (D-Phila), State Rep. John Galloway (D-Bucks), and Northampton County DA John Morganelli are also considering but unannounced.

  4. A burned out thug union past its prime endorses a corrupt man who bashes homosexuals and tells jokes about women getting raped. Quite the “big tent” Democratic party wouldn’t you say? Corbett and Cawley are going to trounce Schwartz/McCord/Wolf/whoever and this guy.

  5. Critz is a creep! Why would anyone endorse him? If your going to elect Critz, you might as well elect Cawley, practically the same guy.
