Updated: Corbett To Officially Launch Campaign

Corbett

Update: PoliticsPA has obtained a copy of the Governor’s schedule of campaign events, below.

Governor Corbett will confirm the worst-kept secret in Pennsylvania politics on Wednesday. He’s running for reelection.

Despite low approval ratings and rumors of primary challengers, the sitting governor will launch his reelection campaign next week in Pittsburgh at the Heinz History Center. The following day, he will appear in Philadelphia for another reelection stump speech.

Following the Philadelphia announcement, Republican officials say the governor has a two day tour planned for the southeastern Pa. region.

While he does have the incumbency advantage, he will likely face an uphill battle even within his own party.  This week Franklin & Marshall found just 1 in 5 registered voters thinks Corbett deserves re-election, or believes he is doing a good or excellent job. The biggest sting? By 2 points, 44% to 42%, Republican voters think he should step aside rather than run in 2014.

There is some good news for Corbett, his health care proposal is very popular. His alternate proposal to accepting a Medicaid expansion under Obamacare, uses private sector insurance companies to expand health care for the poor along with adding a requirement that recipients be seeking a job, is even more popular. 72% of respondents support Corbett’s version versus just 18% who oppose it.

The Democrats have painted the governor as a sitting duck, and many are lining up to replace him including Allyson Schwartz, Rob McCord, John Hanger, Tom Wolf, Ed Pawlowski, Katie McGinty, Max Myers and Jo Ellen Litz.

  1. The ego and arrogance of this man is unbelievable, to think he even has a chance!!! I’m a longtime republican and there is NO WAY I would vote for this man. I don’t know what’s worse the Gov or our GOP leadership who leaves us with no other options. I get their message loud and clear, screw the people of PA we have to look out for ourselves! The PA GOP leadership needs cleaned out just like Washington.

  2. The word is getting around. The Penn State University Presidency should not be another Tom Corbett Administration patronage job like the Turnpike Commissioner that went to Big Daddy Roger Nutt. Tom Corbett and John Brabender you done enough to harm the top higher educational institution in the Keystone State, Penn State University. Keep your hands off this position. Penn State needs a FRESH START! DON’T POLITICIZE THE PENN STATE PRESIDENCY LIKE YOU DID THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN THIS STATE. Even Dick Scaife agrees. http://trib.me/1aAVEqt

  3. http://www.timesonline.com/news/energy/cracker-plant-could-be-in-jeopardy/article_9410c374-2db1-5633-8820-8c78942d8529.html#.UnbFnTQ3d-U.email Well the possible demise of the Cracker plant in Beaver shouldn’t be a surprise. Economic development was never a priority for the Corbett/Brabender Administraiton. Here are the Corbett/Brabender Administration priorities: 1. Increase John Brabender’s net worth. 2. Support Cyber Charter School Welfare Queens in the name of Education Reform. 3. Make sure Mary Beth Buchanan’s hubby’s law firm and clients are royally taken care of. 4. Make sure there is no blowback from the prior politicization of Corbett’s AG office, which entails keeping the loyal Nutts, loyal. THIS IS AN AGENDA THAT WE CAN ALL SUPPORT!!

  4. WOW! Now the Cyber Charter School Cabal led by Shadow Secretary of Ed, Charly Zogby, now has Susy Corbett runnng cover for how Tom Corbett has decimated education and provided Corporate Welfare at Taxpayer expense to the Cyber Charter cabal. Corbett cares but not for your family, the Cyber Charter School Corporate Welfare Queens. http://shar.es/IzPvd

  5. The Pittsburgh Tribune Review offered a glowing tribute today to PAGOP Rob Gleason. Well, going into the start of the Corbett race what significance does this have? This shout-out could be a warning to Governor John Brabender to leave Mr. Gleason alone, it or it could be an endorsement of Mr. Gleason’s hard-edged racial politics. Let’s be honest: Corbett’s only chance of victory is to have someone like Rob Gleason scare every white folk to the polls. Obviously the message is clear that 2014 will be a very nasty hard-edged race that will even further divide Pennsylvania. http://www.keystonepolitics.com/2013/07/the-pa-republican-partys-leadershi

  6. http://trib.me/1cA8bbo I guess at Pitt, the finalists will not be required to interview with Governor Brabender? Is the Penn State Presidency another Corbett patronage job? From what I’ve been told Tom Corbett’s vote is the only one that counts. I hope they don’t have another raging liberal or RINO to academia to waste our tax dollars.

  7. Is Tom Corbett the judge, jury and executioner on the Penn State University board? Does the Tom Corbett/John Brabender Administration view the Penn State University Presidency as another Patronage job like the Chair of PA Turnpike Commission which was awarded to Big Daddy Nutt to allegledly silence Baby Brian Nutt about all the strategic political advice Baby Nutt and John Brabender gave former Attorney General Tom Corbett? Should Tom Corbett resign from the Penn State University Board for the good of the taxpayers of Pennsylvania? Penn State Proud!!

  8. Former Lower Merion Constable Eric Bradway is running for Governor on the Democratic Ticket Maybe you should Cover him
