Val Arkoosh, who is running for Congress in PA’s 13th district, just released a campaign web video that serves as an introduction to this first-time politician.

Arkoosh is a physician from Philadelphia who has specialized in helping women in labor. She says that a career in medicine has revealed to her some of the larger issues the country is facing, and she wants to fix them.

“I just saw this as an opportunity to help my patients,” Arkoosh stated. “These things that I work on- healthcare, education, environment- these are things that I see my children, my patients, my neighbors, dealing with every single day. And what is going on in Washington really does matter now.”

In the video, Arkoosh makes it clear she is a Washington outsider, running an insurgent campaign for health care reform and against the political establishment. Given that all of her opponents have held or currently hold office, this will be an important distinguishing factor for the campaign to make.

The 13th district seat will be vacated by Rep. Allyson Schwartz, who is currently running for governor. Also vying for the seat is former Rep. Marjorie Margolies, State Sen. Daylin Leach, and State Rep. Brendan Boyle.
