Van Susteren Dings Metcalfe On Voter ID

Voter ID House sponsor Daryl Metcalfe took a little bit of heat Thursday night on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. The host went back-and-forth with Metcalfe and noted some of the difficulties it may pose for voters.

Hat tip to Tom Murse of the Lancaster New Era for spotlighting the clip. Watch it here.

This week, the General Assembly passed and the Governor signed into law legislation that will require all voters to present ID at the polls to prove their identity. Supporters of the legislation claim that Pa’s version of the law, unlike some of the other similar laws, is much more flexible. Supporters claim that since the IDs in Pennsylvania are free, no voter will be suppressed because it will be inexpensive to obtain a photo identification card. Turns out the photo ID cards will not be free for all voters. If you do not have a birth certificate, required to obtain a photo ID, then the birth certificate will cost you $10. In theory, that means that there are voters in the commonwealth who will have to pay $10 in order to vote in November.

  1. Oh, grow up! Our Palmetto State law was very similar except we also made a provision for anyone whose religion forbade facial photos. Holder came after us, too. Greta was trying to assure that all provisions to accommodate the voters were being covered. Me thinks thou doth protest too much.
