Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance took a shot at Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris on Wednesday afternoon in Erie when discussing the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In an event at Team Hardinger, a transportation and warehousing company, Vance was queried about an alleged incident at Arlington National Cemetery, where two Trump campaign officials engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with a cemetery staff member during former President Donald Trump’s visit, which came on the third anniversary of the deaths of 13 service members during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“I think first of all, the altercation at Arlington Cemetery is the media creating a story where I really don’t think there is one,” said Vance in response. “Our veterans care that three years ago, 13 brave, innocent Americans died, and they died because Kamala Harris refused to do her job, and there hasn’t been a single investigation or a single firing. Look sometimes mistakes happen. That’s just the nature of government, the nature of military service. But to have those 13 Americans lose their lives and not fire a single person is disgraceful.
“Talk about a story out of those 13 brave, innocent Americans who lost their lives, it’s that Kamala Harris is so asleep at the wheel that she won’t even do an investigation into what happened. And she wants to yell at Donald Trump because he showed up … she … can go to hell.”
The former Marine talked about his experience during his 34-minute address and why it helped prepare him for a shot at the No. 2 position in the country.
“What’s great about the Marine Corps is whether you’re a 19-year-old kid or a 23-year-old fresh out of college, or a 45-year-old who’s been in the Marine Corps for 25 years, the Marine Corps demands that you occupy positions of leadership, and it lets you make mistakes, and it teaches you how to improve from those mistakes. That’s the most important quality of the vice president. You’ve got to be able to lead.”
Vance also foreshadowed the amount of time that the Trump campaign will have him traversing the Commonwealth over the next 70 days.
“You all of Pennsylvania are going to get sick of me over the next two months, because I practically live here, State of Pennsylvania” he said. “Because this is such an important state for us. Think of all the powerful interests. The broken bureaucracy in this country. The people who’ve gotten rich shipping your jobs to China. They want Kamala Harris.”
“The only way to beat them … and the only way to fight back is at the ballot box this November. Win Pennsylvania reelect Donald Trump and take this country back.”
“This election is a stark choice between two very different economic visions: while Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will build up the middle class and lower costs, Donald Trump and JD Vance plan to jack up working families’ taxes by thousands a year so that they can give more handouts to their billionaire friends and big corporations,” said Erie City Councilmember Chuck Nelson. “That’s their grand vision for Pennsylvania families: tax hikes for us and tax cuts for their rich donors.”
