Veteran Looks to Challenge Barletta

Alan HoweDemocrat Alan Howe has jumped into the race to challenge Congressman Lou Barletta (R-Luzerne).

“I will stand for the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania’s 11 th Congressional District.  Over the next nineteen months, I will visit with voters throughout the district explaining my positions and listening carefully to voter concerns,” Howe said in a letter announcing his candidacy.

Howe served in the Air Force for 24 years, including 20 years stationed overseas.

Howe is launching his campaign today because it is Tax Day.

“By midnight on April 18th , Tax Day, millions of Americans will surrender a portion of their hard-earned money to fund their federal government. Precious few people like doing this. No one thinks it is unnecessary,” Howe said in the letter.

Howe is a native of New York, and currently lives in Carlisle. He was most recently a SENSE Government Facilitator at United State Institute of Peace.

Update: Barletta’s campaign responded to the announcement.

“Congressman Barletta is focused on doing his job and working hard for the residents of the 11th District,” Barletta spokesman Jon Anzur said in an email.

  1. I’m a homeless vet. Barletta didn’t lift a finger to help with my case with the VA. Lost my house today. Thanks Lou

  2. “The guy’s Facebook page is all about legalizing heroin. Yes, heroin,” sez KSDF. Four posts (among hundreds over more than a year) discussing solutions to the drug epidemic. Sounds like a thoughtful, rational candidate, focused on public service. So you see what you need to know about KSDF.

  3. Barletta’s Campaign Translation: “Lou Barletta is working hard against the interests of his constituents to win favor with the lunatic in the Oval Office. He’s terrified to meet face-to-face with constituents, and hopes his ridiculously gerrymandered district will be enough to keep him in office another term to carry water for DJT.”

  4. Give him a chance – he is a vet which would have a unique perspective and is clearly someone that is dedicated to our country. Barletta has done nothing for the 11th and is only dedicated to himself. He should have gotten out on the Trump train.

  5. The guy’s Facebook page is all about legalizing heroin. Yes, heroin.

That’s all you need to know.

  6. Why is it that all of the Republican candidates live in their Congressional districts, but so far none (or few) of the announced Democratic candidates live in the districts?

  7. Too many bigots believing in killing dark-skinned people around the world, while they sit at home in their PA trailers, to vote for a guy who believes in peace.
