Video: Medaglia’s Opening Salvo

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Larry Medaglia is going on TV in earnest tomorrow if special election to replace the late State Senator Mike O’Pake, and he’s starting with a standard get-to-know-you style television ad.

The ad, which is entirely narrated, focuses on Medaglia’s roots in the district, his experience as a successful small businessman, his work as a professor, his service to the county, and his intention to lower taxes and, “stop the out of control spending in Harrisburg.”

The background images are campaign standards: Medaglia with his family, talking to fire fighters, touring factories, and talking with voters over the kitchen table.

The ad will air heavily on WFMZ and local cable channels, said Medaglia Campaign Manager Greg Becker, and is the first of about four they plan to air. (Stay on the lookout for ads about their opponent Judy Schwank and her vote as Commissioner to raise taxes). The ad was paid for by the Pennsylvania Republican State Senate Campaign Committee.

Medaglia is the Berks County Register of Wills and former Chairman of Berks GOP.

Yesterday, PoliticsPA brought you Medaglia’s Spanish-language ad, which is aimed at Reading’s sizable Latino population. It has aired sporadically on Spanish TV in the area. Tomorrow’s ad will be the campaign’s first major buy.

Judy Schwank, the Democratic candidate for the seat, went up on the same set of channels on Saturday. Her ad also focused on jobs.

The special election will be held on March 15th.
