Wecht Endorsed by Sen. Bob Casey

judgewechtDavid Wecht, Superior Court Judge and candidate for the State Supreme Court, just won the endorsement of one of Pennsylvania’s leading Democrats.

Senator Bob Casey announced today his support of Wecht’s candidacy.

“After serving with distinction on the Court of Common Pleas for Pennsylvania’s Fifth Judicial District, Judge David Wecht has been an outstanding judge for the Pennsylvania Superior Court,” Sen. Casey said. “His impressive academic achievements, legal experiences, and judicial temperament are beyond reproach. Judge Wecht will make an excellent Supreme Court Justice.”

“I am proud to receive the endorsement of Senator Casey; a senator who has carried on the proud legacy of his father and continues to show Pennsylvanians what it means to lead on issues that matter most around the kitchen table,” Judge Wecht responded.

Wecht was one of only two candidates to be formally endorsed by the Democratic Party at their winter meeting in February. He also received a “Highly Recommended” rating from the PA Bar Association and the backing of the state’s AFL-CIO.

There are currently three vacancies on the State Supreme Court that are set to be filled this November.

  1. Senator Casey’s endorsement means nothing in a Judicial Race. In Rural Counties in Pennsylvania it means less. Those counties are lucky to see the Senator once every six years. So the Senator’s endorsement would be of little value. The cities would perceive Casey’s endorsement as one political family helping another political family. We must stop electing Judges at all levels of the Court System in Pennsylvania because their fathers or grandfathers where Judges or Political Office Holders. Your last name should not be an entitlement to an elected office. Only voting for the most qualified candidates with ethics will we straighten out the Judiciary System in Pennsylvania.

  2. I argued an appeal before a Superior Court panel that included Wecht. It involved a First Amendment issue which he fully understood and asked some interesting questions. the other two not so much. I was impressed

  3. Omar-
Wecht is pretty liberal and clearly pro-choice. So, there is a little irony with him praising Casey’s father. I’m assuming it’s for his other accomplishments as governor, and not for his notorious behavior against women’s reproduction rights.

    fake “joe hoeffel”-
The real Joe Hoeffel would never make a negative comment like that about a candidate.

I saw Wecht at debate last week. VERY smart/sharp guy.

  4. Wecht is by far the smartest and most qualified candidate. Yale undergrad, Yale law. Donohue doesn’t have half his brains

  5. Of course Casey endorses Wecht. Big money. Nope, I am voting for Donohue and Woodruff.
