Western Dems Rally Around Shapiro

Shapiro-FundraisingIf the Democratic Party is going to hold onto the Attorney General’s office they’ll have to be united.

Last April, Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro won a three-person race with 47%. Meanwhile, State Sen. John Rafferty walked away with the GOP nomination relatively easily with 64% of the vote.

As a result, Shapiro has to win over the supporters of Allegheny County DA Stephen Zappala in order to unite the party and pivot to the general.

Shapiro will make a major effort on that first front next month during a Pittsburgh fundraiser.

Attendees are a who’s who of Pittsburgh Democratic politics including, but not limited to: State Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa, State House Minority Leader Frank Dermody, Congressman Mike Doyle, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, State Senator Wayne Montana, State Rep. Dan Frankel, City Councilman Dan Gilman, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and Dr. Cyril Wecht.

Costa, Dermody and Fitzgerald were among the first to back Zappala.

Incumbent Attorney General Kathleen Kane is not running for re-election due to a myriad of troubles.

  1. You have some really good articles and I think I would be a good asset. I’d really like to write some articles for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine. Please blast me an e-mail if interested. Thank you!

  2. Why would anyone want the support of the Zappala Crime Family/Terrorist Group and their followers?

  3. Every elected Democrat west of the Susquehanna was on hand to make sure that they show some gratitude to the person they hope will be in charge of dismissing their charges.

  4. Shapiro will do well in the western part of PA. He has strong ties from his days as a legislator (where he built good relationships with Rs)

  5. Voters need to be clued in to how anti-gun rights was the Corbett OAG, Pa State Police, their attorneys, Commonwealth Court, and PA Supreme Court. Failure to meet legal deadlines, false excuses for denials, non-public hearings at OAG HQ where ALJ failed to adhere to due process standards and failed to include his prejudicial remarks in transcripts, denial of appeals by Commonwealth Court on grounds that Pa State Police lawyers had conceded at OAG hearing had no factual basis, and the cowardly failure of PA Supreme Court to grant an appeal.

  6. He should understand now that if he let’s the Zappala mafia inside, they won’t go back out on their own.
