As the race for Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seat between Democratic incumbent Bob Casey Jr. and Republican opponent Dave McCormick continues without a resolution, could we see a recount in the near future?
The simple answer is yes.
According to Pennsylvania statute, the Secretary of the Commonwealth must order a recount for any statewide race in which the candidate was defeated by one-half of a percent or less of the votes cast for the office.
The recount must be ordered no later than 5 p.m. on the second Thursday following the day of the election – November 14.
As it presently stands, McCormick has 48.95 percent of the vote to 48.49% for Casey – a difference of 0.46% or within the margin for a mandatory recount. The vote difference as of 1 p.m. on Thursday was 31,460 votes.
McCormick has been down this road before, as he lost a recount to Mehmet Oz for the 2022 GOP senatorial nomination. A recount was ordered in that race after the popular vote was decided by 0.01% or 950 votes.
“McCormick is up 30,679 votes with more to come, as ruby red Cambria County is still outstanding. While votes continue to be counted, any way you slice it, Dave McCormick will be the next United States Senator from Pennsylvania,” said Elizabeth Gregory, McCormick communications director.
“The count in Pennsylvania is still continuing,” said Casey spokesperson Maddy McDaniel. “Yesterday, the vote margin shrunk by 50,000 votes and this race is now within half a point, the threshold for automatic recounts in Pennsylvania. With tens of thousands more votes to be counted, we are committed to ensuring every Pennsylvanian’s vote is heard and confident that at the end of that process, Senator Casey will be re-elected.”
What Happens Next?
No later than 5 p.m. on November 12, each county board of elections must submit to Al Schmidt, the Secretary of the Commonwealth, the unofficial returns for the contest with the signature of the members of each county board of elections.
The report must include an accurate accounting of all uncounted provisional ballots, uncounted absentee ballots, uncounted mail-in ballots, uncounted alternative ballots, and any other types of uncounted ballots (including any ballots from military and overseas civilian voters that have not yet been canvassed) for which a final resolution regarding the validity of the ballots has not yet been made.
Should Schmidt determine a recount is required, it will be scheduled to start no later than Wednesday, November 20. The recount must be completed by noon on Tuesday, November 26.
Conducting the Recount
In a twist, the county board of elections must recount all ballots using manual, mechanical or electronic devices of a different type than that used for the election in conducting the recount.
Counties shall conduct the recount using tabulators of a different type than that used in the election, or by a hand count of the paper ballots.

I am hoping a recount will show that vote counts were not right, Trump should not have “won” after all of the anti-American things he has said and done. Putin is involved, that’s all that would make sense.

Democrats had more backing from corporations and billionaire. Other than Musk, Democrats were backed by Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, George Soros, Mark Zuckerberg, and Mark Cuban. In fact, Democrats campaign donations were $1.3 BILLION for 2024 while Republican donations were $750 MILLION. The reason Trump won 5 MILLION more of the POPULAR vote is because the Democrats have gone too far left and have been radicalized. That’s why every moderate and independent no longer trusts the party.

Trump won PA by 137k votes which was just under 2%. They aren’t recounting those votes.
