What a difference a primary challenge makes.
In the race for the governor’s mansion in Harrisburg, the gap in the cash-on-hand for candidates running for the Republican and Democratic nominations is stark. And might be unsettling for those championing the GOP in November.
Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania’s attorney general and the presumptive Democratic nominee, has $13.4 million in hand according to end-of-year filings with the Department of State.
The three Republicans with the most available cash – Dave White, Jake Corman and Jason Richey – combine for approximately $6.1 million. Those funds will be utilized over the next three months in the attempt to woo GOP voters to their side.
White, who loaned his campaign $5 million, has $2.485 million on hand, while Corman follows at $2.131 million. Richey is the third member of the million-dollar club, entering 2022 with $1.494 million. He has loaned his campaign $1.429 million.
Bill McSwain and Doug Mastriano each have more than a half-million in the bank. McSwain’s account stood at $812k, including a $100,000 loan, while Mastriano has $550k in pocket.
Rounding out the GOP field is Scott Martin ($270k), Charlie Gerow ($254k), Lou Barletta ($243k), Guy Ciarrocchi ($241k) and Nche Zama ($146k).
The “gap” between candidates’ in terms of cash on hand can quickly be closed, however, with the involvement of a political action committee, such as Commonwealth Partners’ $4.8 million infusion into the McSwain campaign.

The true, red cultist are for Mastriano and with a fairly crowded field it will be enough for him to get the nomination and an easy Shapiro victory in the fall.
Any generic Republican will beat Shapiro in November.
Hope and some kind of luck is all you have. Shapiro wins easily!
Mark….Trump is the problem. He just built an addition to his home to house his ego. The Republicans especially the State Senate Republican Gov candidates are tethered to Lord Trump and this makes them politically toxic in the Montgomery Bucks Counties. Normally Corman would be a winner but in this Trump era Shapiro by 5 points in November.
I doubt Trump appears at all in this election.
Cash on hand an the end of the primary:
Shapiro $20 million
The Republican nominee: bus fare
You’d be out of your mind to support a PA Gov candidate. It’d be better to light your money on fire – at least you’d get some heat from it. Donating to support a PA Gov candidate is just funding a blow out by Shapiro.
There are much better reasons to not donate to r vote for GOP candidates for PA Gov, such as their atrocious policy proposals and support for Trump criminal actions.
is a formergoper the same as a currentdemocrat?
