Which State Legislators Went to PA’s Public Universities?

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

More than anything, Governor Corbett’s budget is a major hit on PA’s 14 public universities (PASSHE) and four state-affiliated schools. Of all the state’s big-ticket budget items, they saw the greatest loss.

We looked at state legislature to find out who had ties to the schools in question: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock or West Chester from PSSHE. And the four state-affiliated schools Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Lincoln.

It turns out, these schools would have a lot of ground to cover in Harrisburg. 65 of the 203 members of the State House and 21 of 50 State Senators attended one of the above. That’s about 1 out of every 3 legislators.

If the 37 Republicans in the State House and 13 in the State Senate decide to side with their alma maters, its easy to imagine those cuts being scaled back.

The following list was compiled from the member bios on the State House and Senate websites, without getting into specific majors, post-grad degrees, etc.
