Tom Wolf wants voters to know that unlike Democrats’ characterization of a certain businessman-candidate, he cares about his workers and their community.
Wolf released a new web ad which seeks to distance himself from the profile of Mitt Romney, who opponents cast as a vulture capitalist.
“We both know that Tom Wolf is the opposite of Mitt Romney,” his campaign wrote in an email to supporters about the video.
“Tom is a different kind of successful businessman: Instead of shuttering plants and outsourcing jobs, he turned his company around through investments in people and innovation, creating jobs right here in America.”
Wolf runs his family’s building materials company in northern York County. According to company CFO Michael Newsome in the campaign video, “We have a profit sharing plan that shares somewhere between 20 and 30 percent of the profits of this company with it’s employees.”
The video also features praise from York Mayor Kim Bracey, who has endorsed Wolf’s campaign for Governor.
First office
Speaking of Bracey, she will be on hand as Wolf’s campaign opens its first office next week in York.
It’s an office for volunteers and supporters; the doors open for the public event at 5pm on August 13th at 102 N. George Street in downtown York.
Wolf’s support from hometown Democrats is fairly clear. York County Commissioner Doug Hoke and State Representative Kevin Schreiber will be there, too.
In addition career in business, Wolf was also the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. The other Democrats who hope to challenge Gov. Tom Corbett include Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, State Treasurer Rob McCord, and former Secretaries of Environmental Protection Katie McGinty and John Hanger.

The Tom in this video is exactly the Tom I know. This is his persona and character. He and I shared business philosophies of creating a form of employee ownership in company profits which give employees a tremendous incentive stake in the success of the company and how it relates to their performance and incomes. He understands that the importance of preserving and enriching the middleclass of our nation is what creates economic vibrancy. I’m with Tom! Respectfully, Scott Sylte
What does “one of us” mean anyway? The reason I had a problem with Mitt Romney wasn’t his success but how he achieved it. Everything I have heard about Mr. Wolf makes him sound like just the sort of person who would make a good Governor. Why should his success disqualify him?
At what point did being an average person become something to look for in a leader? I’m sorry, but I don’t want the guy who fixes my transmission, sells me a car, or even taught me in 6th grade leading my state. I respect and admire all of those people for what they are capable of but that doesn’t make them ready to govern PA. I want someone with leadership skills, communication skills, and the ability to analyze complex situations and problems. Sounds like Wolf, McGinty, or even Schwartz fit that bill. You know who doesn’t? Corbett.
Brad, you must like the alternative of having the gas industry pay your way in?
Buying your way into the governor’s residence is a great idea. Wish we all had that same ability. Must mean a great deal to “win” by making that kind of investment in yourself. No he is not Mitt Romney…but he is not one of us either.
