1-5 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos and welcome to the buzz. Santorumania continues as Pennsylvania reporters dust off old ledes and call contacts they thought might never see above the fold again.

We’re also adding a new section to the buzz, right below PoliticsPA stories: Pa. Legislative Election Updates. It will appear daily and highlight stories and news from across the state about the races for Pa. House and Senate.

DePasquale a Favorite for Dem Endorsement: When Democratic state committee meets on January 14, it looks like their decision for Auditor General won’t take too long. The only candidate actively pursuing the endorsement, York lawmaker Eugene DePasquale, is in position to walk away with it.

Stefano, Ansinn Out of Pa-8 Race: Activist Jennifer Stefano has taken the helm of Americans for Prosperity-PA  and ruled out a primary challenge to Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks). Meanwhile on the D side, Doylestown Borough President Det Ansinn has withdrawn from the race and endorsed Kathy Boockvar.

Philly Tea Party Endorses Romney: Electability is more important than conservative orthodoxy, according to one prominent Philadelphia-area Tea Party.

Altmire Hires a New Manager: Angela Ruslander is a former staffer for Rep. Bruce Bailey (D-IA), and SEIU, will take over Rep. Jason Altmire’s campaign operations. Meanwhile, Altmire’s 2008 CM is working for Rep. Mark Critz; and transition in the Rothfus camp.

McCaffery Kicks Off AG Bid: He’s been in the race for a few months, but who could resist a bic kickoff in Philly with Bob Brady, Johnny Doc, and the whole IBEW 98 team. Also present: Bucks Co. Commissioner Diane Marseglia.

Pa. Legislative Election Updates

SD-15. York County Clerk of Courts Don O’Shell announced this week that he’ll seek the seat of outgoing Sen. Jeffrey Piccola. Dauphin GOP Chair John McNally is in the race, as is 2010 LG hopeful Steve Johnson. A source indicates that neither Rep. Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin) nor Lowman Henry will run.

HD-132. Allentown City Councilman Mike Schlossberg, 28, has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the open seat there. Schlossberg is seeking the 132nd seat of outgoing Rep. Jennifer Mann, who announced last month that she will retire. The 22nd, relocated by redistricting, was previously represented by Chelsa Wagner who this week was sworn in as Allegheny Co. Controller.
