10/11 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, and welcome to the buzz. Today is the last day to register to vote, so be sure to… Oh, who are we kidding? If you’re reading this, odds are pretty good that you’re already registered.

Obama in Pittsburgh: The President will make what seems like his 400th trip to Pittsburgh today to tout his jobs plan. Check PoliticsPA later today for the coverage. In the meantime, the RNC  is accusing the President of running to the campaign trail in Pennsylvania rather than deal with the issues at hand.

Corbett’s Education Speech: Corbett will unveil his education policy today at Lincoln Charter in York, but some critics have pointed out that the school doesn’t meet state testing requirements.

Conservatives Target Vance, Yaw: Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania, a group whose focus is enforcing conservative orthodoxy among Republican lawmakers, is taking aim at Pat Vance (R-Cumberland) and Gene Yaw (R-Lycoming).

Commonwealth Court Preview: With just under a month left before election day, Commonwealth Court candidates Anne Covey (R) and Kathryn Boockvar (D) are each busy making their way around the state, but political scientist and pollster G. Terry Madonna said nothing short of $3 million and a statewide television and radio campaign is going to earn either of the candidates statewide recognition.

Superior Court Forum: Speaking of this year’s court races, Capitolwire and the Widener School of Law are hosting a statewide televised forum between the candidates for Superior Court this Friday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. Click here for details or to RSVP.

Pitts Moves Abortion Bill: On Friday, the House will consider H.R. 358, the “Protect Life Act.” The measure, introduced by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Chester), would prohibit federal funds from going toward any health care plan that covers abortion services; it also would block funding from being withheld from institutions that are opposed to providing abortions.

George Will Opposes Electoral College Plan: Influential conservative columnist George Will this weekend took a strong stand against plans by some Republicans to tinker with Pennsylvania’s Electoral College.
