Pittsburgh City Council Winners and Losers

Pittsburgh-skylineThe Pittsburgh City Council election results are finally in, and PoliticsPA has them for you. Here’s the district-by-district breakdown of Election Day’s winners and losers in the Steel City.

District 2

Incumbent councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

District 4

Incumbent Natalia Rudiak faced a primary challenge from Brookline resident Johnny Lee for her second term on council.

Rudiak staved off her challenger, garnering 52% of the vote to Lee’s 48% with 97% of the results in. She will face Samuel Hurst in the general election, who ran unopposed on the GOP side.

District 6

The incumbent Daniel Lavelle was first elected to council in 2009. Former Mayoral candidate Franco “Dok” Harris from that same year and former Councilwoman Tonya Payne challenged him in the primary.

Lavelle ultimately won the Democratic nomination with 53% of the vote, defeating Payne with 29% and Harris with 17%, with 98% reporting.

District 8

In this year’s most hotly contested council race, three candidates vied to replace Bill Peduto, including Peduto’s chief of staff, Dan Gilman, activist Jeanne Clark and lawyer Sam Hens-Greco.

In the end, Gilman pulled ahead in the three-way contest, winning 59% of the vote. Hens-Greco and Clark garnered 25% and 16%, respectively. Gilman will face Mordecai Treblow in November, who ran unopposed in the GOP primary.

  1. The winners are as is stated; the losers are Dok Harris, time to get a job Dok! And Bill Peduto. Peduto faces an identical council except this time he is mayor and his crony is in his seat.Can Mayor Bill make nice! We’ll have to wait and see!
