10/8 Morning Buzz

Surrogate-watchers, rejoice! Dr. Jill Biden is touring Pa. today and tomorrow: here’s her itinerary. Will we get our first 3rd quarter fundraising announcements today? Good morning politicos, here’s the Buzz.

And don’t miss Friday’s Ups & Downs.

CAP Debuts Sandusky Hit Against Santarsiero: A conservative group is going where Republicans can’t, knocking state Rep. Steve Santarsiero over his vote for a bill that could have been used to fund a project for The Second Mile (but wasn’t).

Endorsement Rundown! The election is a mere month away, and candidates are working to consolidate their political bases for the home stretch. Here are all the statewide and congressional endorsements that didn’t fit into their own stories this week.

Study Findings Don’t Surprise Former Eagle Scouts in Legislature: A new report shows that Eagle Scouts are more likely to be civically engaged and take positions of leadership in their communities. That came as little surprise to the former scouts serving in Harrisburg.

Clinton Rallies for Critz: Democratic supporters stood shoulder to shoulder to see former President Bill Clinton endorse Rep. Mark Critz Thursday afternoon, packed into an IBEW union hall.

Legislative Election Updates:

HD-31: A conservative group is going where Republicans can’t, knocking state Rep. Steve Santarsiero over his vote for a bill that could have been used to fund a project for The Second Mile (but wasn’t).

HD-47: The York Dispatch interviews Rep.Keith Gillespie (R-York) and Dem challenger Sarah Speed.

HD-112: The Times Tribune ed board interviews Kevin Haggerty, the man who beat Rep. Ken Smith (D-Lackawanna) in the Democratic primary. He says among other things that he favors shrinking the legislature.

HD-124: About 2 months after he made the ballot, indy candidate Dante Picciano, challenging Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Schuylkill), announced his campaign this weekend and proposed debates. “He pledges to serve one term only, a self-imposed term limit.  One and done!  He will not start running for re-election the day after the election.  One hundred percent of his effort will be on representing and serving the people, not running for re-election,” his campaign wrote.

HD-156: Ed Rendell continued his endorsement spree, this time backing Rep. Dan Truitt’s (R-Chester) challenger Brett Binder. “Bret understands the importance of protecting our environment and preserving our natural resources.  He will not sell out to special interest groups. Bret is an innovative thinker with a proven commitment to his community,” Rendell said.

HD-169: The Philadelphia Firefighters Union, IAFF Local 22, has switched sides. The union endorsed Dem Ed Neilson in the special election and now has endorsed Kralle, the Republican running for Denny O’Brien’s old seat.

  1. Did I see more name calling? I am no longer surprised since I read Buzz Bissingers column. Again, someone is putting forth some arguments of substance, even reluctantly, therefore they must be verbally assaulted.
I think Mr. Bissinger is very brave and willing to be intellectually honest in this decision. And, while I am typically used to the same disconnect politically with my own spouse, this time there is no disagreement. He is a reformed Obamaite and there is no doubt for him at all.

  2. Clinton only coming to PA to help Critz shows that Clinton owes him and isn’t trying to help the democrats! He could have made several stops and helped mulitple candidates in Pittsburgh, but he didn’t, just he weasel Critz. But neither one respects women so we aren’t suprised!
Clinton let them get raped too!

  3. Buzz Bissinger and Bill Gault in a tight battle for the title of “Stupidest Man In Philadelphia.”
