Legislative Election Updates

HD-74: As we predicted last week, Downingtown Mayor Josh Maxwell has officially entered the race for this newly located seat. He will face three-term Caln Township Councilman Joshua Young in the Democratic primary for the seat. Democratic Mayor Josh Maxwell was named the Best Young Politician in the area by Philadelphia Magazine in 2011. Re-elected in 2013 by nearly 40 points, and was immediately endorsed by County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone, Former State Representative Paul Drucker and officials from Caln, Valley, Sadsbury, South Coatesville, Downingtown and the city of Coatesville.

HD-120: Rep. Phyllis Mundy (D-Luzerne) announced she would be retiring at the end of her term just last week, but already a handful of candidates have lined up to replace her. Democratic contenders include Wyoming Area School Board Member Josh Bolin; Lori Nocito, executive director of Leadership Wilkes-Barre and an Exeter resident; Gary Mack, an Edwardsville councilman and math teacher for the Wyoming Valley West School District; Eileen Cipriani, president of West Wyoming council and Mundy’s legislative assistant; Mike Szustak, a Kingston native working as development associate and director of media placement at The Campaign Group in Philadelphia; Cassandra Coleman-Corcoran, Exeter mayor and owner of Cassandra Coleman & Associates; and Laura C. Dennis, an attorney and West Pittston resident.
