12/16 Ups & Downs

A decade behind bars, wasted millions and yet another shot at Kathleen Kane. See who made this week’s Ups & Downs!

Down ArrowChaka Fattah. Ten Years. One decade. That’s how long former Congressman Chaka Fattah will spend behind bars. This is the second-longest sentence any member of Congress has ever received for a crime. Whether or not the sentence was too harsh, Rep. Fattah’s legacy will unfortunately be defined by corruption and his next ten years.

Up ArrowMichelle Henry. The Bucks Assistant District Attorney is set to receive a promotion. Incoming Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced Henry as his choice for First Deputy. She’ll be the first female to hold this position. Henry’s most notable case in her career so far was her work on the prosecution team which successfully convicted former AG Kathleen Kane. Hopefully Shapiro and Henry together can move the AG’s office past that nightmare.

Down ArrowJill Stein. $7.3 million and nothing much to show for it. That basically describes the Green Party nominee’s recount effort which a District Judge shutdown on Monday. Ultimately, the initiative served as a way for the third-party candidate to gain the dollars and email addresses of disheartened Democrats. Here’s guessing they’re not happy at the lack of results. In a year full of scams, this one managed to stand out.

Up Arrow30 Under 30. This arrow goes to all thirty people who made the 2016 edition of our 30 under 30 list. These political operatives are the future of Pennsylvania politics so you’d do well to get to know them. As for those listed, it’s up to you to serve as leaders for the Keystone State in the years to come.

Down ArrowEric Papenfuse. We’ll be giving the Harrisburg Mayor a down arrow every week until he lifts his ridiculous ban of PennLive. This is week twenty-seven.

The tweet of the week goes to Echelon Insights for this fantastic map of election results by media market.

  1. Have to hide from posting my name. I live in Delco. I want my trash to be picked up.
Merry Christmas to you insane politicos:)

  2. You should do a survey noting that some of us use our real names because we believe in accountability and transparency and think that anyone who hides behind a screen name has something to hide.

  3. You should do a survey where people reveal how many bloggers co-opt names of other bloggers, so they get blamed for stupid posts that the real poster is too chickenshit to be identified with.

  4. You should do a survey post where people get to guess who or how many Democrats will be charged with corruption offenses in 2017.
