Kathleen Kane. Generally, we try to avoid repeats for the Ups & Downs but the Attorney General just made that impossible this week. We learned Monday that the evidence Kane cited for why she didn’t take up the Philly sting case doesn’t exist. This is a tough blow for the AG especially on the heels of the news that Philly DA Seth Williams successfully brought charges in two of the cases she dismissed. Kane won’t be sad to see 2014 go.
Same-Sex Marriage. Politics and history are generally slow-moving. Sudden, titanic changes are rare. Yet in the last ten years, the American public (including Pennsylvanians) have completely flipped on the issue of same-sex marriage. In 2004, a Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll found 35% of PA residents in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage. Ten years later, that figure stands at 62%. A tremendous swing and an incredible victory for LGBT Pennsylvanians.
Pittsburgh Steelers. Last Sunday, the Steelers won and clinched a berth in the playoffs. This will be the Steel Curtain’s twenty-seventh trip to the postseason in the last forty-three seasons. Over the next few weeks, the team will try to add to their NFL-record six Lombardi Trophies.
Philadelphia Eagles. I don’t want to talk about it…

Who is Jeff Rosenbaum? Ha ha, oh right: nobody cares.
Seth Williams successfully brought charges? We won’t know until the legal process comes to its completion whether or not he “successfully brought charges.” It might turn out that Mr. Williams has egg on his face if the perps get off because, as a highly respected Republican prosecutor (Edward Marsico) has said, there is no foundation for a successful case.

Ready for Shapiro guy: please lose that silly title. Intentionally or not, it recalls the Ready for Hillary slogan, which is based on the concern expressed in 2008 that the country is not ready for a woman president. What characteristics do you see in Josh for which Pennsylvania needs preparation? Smart white male?
It is a darn shame that the do-nothing right wing extremist Tim Krieger was elected for his umpteenth term due to the nutcases voting in District 57. Man has no record other than purposely trying to push a religious agenda of statues in front of secular public schools, destroy the reproductive freedom of women, and line his own pockets with money from corporations willing to destroy the PA. environment.
The budget that Krieger was part of is full of magical thinking. What a bunch of wimps that make up the Republican base
