12/4 Ups & Downs

A press conference, a luncheon and the faint hope of a budget deal. See who made this week’s list!

Up Arrow1Down ArrowTom Wolf. Governor Wolf is rapidly approaching his one year anniversary in office and it’s been quite the rollercoaster ride. This week, though, may very well have been the most volatile of his Administration. Coming into Thanksgiving it appeared that the budget framework might be unraveling. Then, it was revealed by Harper Polling that Pennsylvanians disagreed with his open policy towards Syrian refugees. The Governor also seemed to sidestep the question of removing Attorney General Kathleen Kane, putting the impetus on the State Senate instead of himself. Finally, he found himself in an argument with the GOP over the funding shortage for domestic violence centers. Nevertheless, a budget deal appears feasible in the next few days. Wolf may yet be able to end Year One with a big victory.

Down ArrowKathleen Kane. This should’ve been a good week for the Attorney General, given the bad news some of her enemies received. As has usually been the case, however, Kane just can’t help but get into her own way. At a bizarre press conference, Kane announced that she would be appointing a Special Prosecutor to investigate all possibly offensive emails. Not only is it questionable whether the AG even has the authority to do this (her law license was suspended after all), it’s also perplexing why she is taking this action now. Kane knew about these emails for years and has selectively released some of them. She’s also been told she can reveal them all yet for some reason chooses not to. Who knows what the Attorney General is thinking.

Up ArrowScott Petri. After a slow, steady buildup Scott Petri made it official this week when he announced he’ll be running for the GOP nomination in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional district. While he still faces primary competition, the State Representative should be the favorite to replace Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick in the only competitive seat in the commonwealth. The next few months may not go his way but at this moment, Petri appears to be the front-runner in a wide open race.

Down ArrowDonald Trump. The Donald is once more a lightening rod for controversy. The Pennsylvania Republican Party was proud to make him the guest speaker for their Commonwealth Club event next weekend at PA Society. Unfortunately for Trump, a number of Republican officials don’t want to be seen with him. This could prove to be a problem for someone  who is running for the Republican presidential nomination. Already Sen. Toomey, as well as Congressmen Dent, Meehan and Costello have said they won’t be attending for one reason or another. It will be intriguing, though, to see if Trump mentions these men during the event and what he’ll have to say about them.

Up Arrow1Lowman Henry. Speaking of the race for the 2016 Republican nomination for President, Lowman Henry scored a major appointment. The CEO of the Lincoln Institute of Public Opinion Research Institute will be the Pennsylvania Chair of Ted Cruz’s campaign. The Texas Senator has seen gains nationwide and in Iowa lately so he just may be able to make it to PA’s April 26th contest.

Our tweet of the week once again goes to Angry Tom Wolf for coming up with the best quip from the Kathleen Kane press conference.

  1. Thank you. [This is how discussion is supposed to work.] Although I disagree about the fraud. The rules make it damned near impossible to catch.

  2. Unsanctioned R – I actually hadn’t raised that point. My point was that Pennsylvania has a voter identification requirement and has had it for many years. You raise an interesting point, though. Most western nations have a national identification card and most make it compulsory to have one. Many require adults or youths over a certain age to carry their national identification cards. Civil libertarians on both sides of the political spectrum in the US have long opposed this from the ACLU to libertarians and, of course, the Christian Apocalypticists and conspiracy theorists.

It would be an interesting discussion worth having. My primary concerns about requiring photo ID for voting is the difficulty many have in obtaining acceptable ID. If we had a compulsory state or national identification law, I don’t think I, or many people, would be opposed to voter ID.

The fact that the Corbett Administration stipulated in court that it couldn’t demonstrate any cases of in-person voter fraud seems to make it pretty obvious that it was a nakedly partisan effort to increase barriers and reduce voting among constituencies that are not favorable to Republicans, which seems especially crucial as demographic changes disfavor the party. Insinuations that Democratic opposition is due to concerted efforts to engage in widespread in-person voter fraud is fantastical and the realm of conspiracy theorists. Opposition to restricting current voter identification requirements in place to only allow photo ID is clearly the principled stand to reduce barriers to voting given the demonstrable difficulty for many people in obtaining permissible identification.

  3. There isn’t actually anyone supporting Kane. She’s just a foil for Democrat bigots to attack Republican bigots.

  4. Notice below how Pat Unger cites to previous posts by HaHaHa and praises HaHaHa for supposedly being right about certain things. Everyone reading this site knows that Pat Unger and HaHaHa are the same person. But this unemployed low IQ lunatic tries to keep up the pretense that there are really multiple people supporting Kathleen Kane and calling for the head of Frank Fina. What a bizarre loser!

  5. PA Dem – it is amazing how these people operate. If the reporters don’t print the story, they continue on with their corruption – doing anything they can, above board or not, to protect the bigot – Eakin. All the while they scream bloody murder about Kane’s one alleged leak go the press. By their arrogance and brazenness, one can tell they have been getting away with their corruption for a very long time.

More and more, Kane is looking like a hero in this. It will be funny when Kane has exposed more corruption than the now-disgraced and demoted corruption prosecutor.

  6. Wait, what ?

Because Wolf has no balls and keeps thinking if he does favors for the GOP or gets out of their way they will negotiate with him in good faith on the budget.

  7. So why has Wolfe called for Kane to resign but remains silent in Eakin? Weird. Maybe Diano can shed some light in this one. He’s pretty clued in to the inner working of politics.

  8. I’m thrying to think if there is anything … anything at all … That Ha3 has been wrong about with regard to this Hate-gate (formerly called Porngate) saga.

He said that the sting case was a “steaming pile of dung.”

He said that the three creeps had no business being prosecutors.

He said Seth Williams would regret the day he hired them.

He said that Kans had uncovered evidence of corruption … and not just “porn.”

He fought the shills who were trying to characterize the hate material as “sophomoric” humor.

He predicted that the accusers would do everything possible to avoid giving Kane a chance to defend herself in a trial.

He said repeatedly – before the DN article – that Fina has prosecuted people for behavior similar to, but not as bad, as his own.

He said that Fina & The Corbett Pervs were in the attack b/c Kane had “the goods” on them.

    It’s all true.

  9. LOL … The Repervlicans are trying to get everything swept under the rug before the new-and-improved Supreme Court starts their work in January.

But the times they are a-changin’ … Corrupt pigs are being exposed left and right.

Eakin needs to be held accountable … just like any of us would be. They hate that.

  10. Oh boy. Guess Eakin is wishing his listened to mccafferys warning last year instead of conspiring with his buddy Ron “don’t worry about a thing Mike-I’ve got you covered ” Castille. Ole Ronny started this ball rolling to make sure McCaffery wasn’t around to ask too many uncomfortable questions and now his BFF Eakin is going down the same road. Can you say early retirement anyone ?

  11. I, for one, hope that HaHaHa sees a doctor. That guy just posts from his mom’s basement all day. He can’t stay on topic and he seems really erratic. He even supports Kathleen Kane. Sick!

  12. Using my screen name may make you feel better for a second, but it is not going to fix what is wrong with you. See a doctor. Go to the ER if need be. I have done what I can do and will now never address you again. God luck. God speed.

  13. Um … No … No one is “getting” your humor, troll-boy. Time to get a big glass of ice-water and breathe … just breathe …

  14. This is getting too complicated for me. I can’t keep my screen names straight. I heed help.

  15. Anonomous – It’s good that you have apologized. Now take a deep breath, put your keyboard down and go get some fresh air! OK …

  16. Pat is also my HERO !!! I wish there was a “Pat Unger Fan Club” I am his biggest fan!!

  17. Meant to shout: “Got it” at the end there. Glad my typo wasn’t “Goy it” … LMAO …

  18. I’m going to pretend ” The good news” is not the same pathetic troll for a second (since he FINALLY picked a new screen name). Here’s my response:

KANE IS A LAWYER. LEARN TO READ … AND WRITE

I DON”T NEED SOURCES, YOU STUPID IDIOT. IT IS A FACT. IF YOU WANT TO TRY TO REFUTE IT, BE MY GUEST.

Any person who states “other states are pretty much irrelevant” is a stone-cold moron (troll or not).

Other States are very relevant. Kane has had her law license temporarily suspended (by a Repervlican-led DB doing the bidding for the corrupt Supreme Court). She is still a lawyer and she is still the duly elected AG of Pennsylvania. What she has done is not “practicing law.” She is not going to go in front of any grand juries. She appointed an Independent Prosecutor to launch a much-needed investigation Id Kane can’t appoint an Independent Prosecutor by virtue of her having a suspended law license, then the AGs in other States who never had to have a law license to begin with would never be “authorized” to make such an appointment.

    Your argument makes no sense. Goe it?!? …. …. …. Troll-Boy …

  19. Pat Unger, I see your reference to other states where the AG does not have to be an “A.” First, you never cite any source for that information. Second, PA is not one of those states. Our law requires Kane to be an attorney. So other states are pretty much irrelevant. I think it’s great, though, that are the one person who ignores common sense and all available evidence and continues to support Kane like she’s your mom.

  20. Isaac, I have no reason to doubt your math, but, do you didn’t take issue that most western nations have voterID?

  21. Unsanctioned R – All voters must show proof of identity the first time voting at a new polling location, as has been the law for years. This requirement can be satisfied a number of ways from photo ID to a current utility bill. Thus I can only assume you are referring to requiring photographic identification every time one votes. In that case, I would encourage you to check your math: only eight states have strict photo ID laws. As you will likely recall, there are 50 states, which makes that 16 percent of states. “Most” implies, at minimum, a majority, which would be 51 percent, or, in this case, at least 26 states.

  22. The public is demanding the removal of Fina from his job and yet his Complaint regarding Grand Jury leaks from AG Kane are considered valid. Fina is part of a network of people fighting to preserve their careers.

The public has every right to question the integrity of our criminal justice system.

The Supreme Court needs to untie Kanes hands and allow her to do her job.

The judicial system need to prove to the good people of PA that the truth is still the American Way.

    UP ARROW FOR KATHLEEN KANE.

  23. please explain how Petri gets anything but a DOWN ARROW IN LIGHT OF YOUR OWN SCEINTIFIC POLLING WHICH SHOWS:
Who Do You Believe Will Be the PA-8 GOP Nominee in 2016?

    Andrew Warren (59%)

    Scott Petri (30%)

    Someone Else (11%)

  24. Kraig – you are not alone:

*** Should Seth Williams Fire Frank Fina? ***

    Yes (77%)
    No (23%)

And the 23% are Fina’s friends (if he has any left) and FOXtards that eat at Cracker Barrel

  25. Seth Williams better do something. His Office – which was once a model of integrity under Abraham – is becoming a laughingstock.

Not sure why those prosecutors are still on the City’s payroll. They have been there for how long? Two years? Other than attack Kane – what have they done?

Why are we paying them to attack Kane? She may need to go to jail. I don’t know. But I don’t want my taxpayer dollars going to their salaries.

    Enough is enough.

  26. “This is not going away. Hate rarely does.” said the unapoligetic anti-Semite who regularly drops the R-word.

  27. MEMO to SETH WILLIAMS: This is not going away. Hate rarely does. BTW – have Fina & Costanzo even apologized publicly? I don’t remember them doing so …

    This from today’s paper:

“To call it Porngate trivializes it. It’s hate. That’s really what it is. Hate,” State Senator Anthony Williams said.

“Words cannot describe how disgusted these set of facts make me feel, how afraid they make me feel for people who want to believe in a fair and blind judicial system.

“This shows that [the prosecutors] were so rabid about targeting certain types of people that they gave a deal to [Ali] who was charged with committing fraud in the amount of more than $400,000 and there’s no penalty.

“Don’t get me wrong. I don’t support taking money. But for [Ali] to say to a state prosecutor that ‘I know something is going on in these districts’ without any validation or fact is scary.”

yep … He pretty much nailed it. Someone should tell Senator Williams that the lawyer that represented Tyron Ali when he made his deal with Fina to have all his charges dropped and to allow him to keep the $400,000.00 he stole from PA taxpayers ALSO IS FRANK FINA’S LAWYER.

  28. Pat, Is Pennsylvania one of those states? By your reasoning, we should be able to ask for ID at the polls because most states (and western nations) also do.

  29. In twenty three states, the Attorney General does not have to hold a state license to practice. I guess none of those Attorneys General have the authority to appoint a Special Prosecutor.

  30. LOL … You morons are “perplexed?” Until recently, the perverts and racists had “Court Orders” in place that protected them. It has been reported that Fina introduced his e-mails into evidence in one of his grand juries so they would be considered “protected material.” And then you roll with the Perv’s talking point about the “authority” to appoint an Independent Prosecutor … LMAO

The DOWN ARROW for Kane is a joke. This may have been one of her best weeks in the last year. Consider front cover of Philadelphia Daily News:
