Legislative Elections Update:

HD-58: Farmer and business owner Tom Logan is running for the Republican nomination in this Westmoreland County district. Logan served as past President of the Westmoreland County Farm Bureau, and devoted twenty years as a Westmoreland Fair and Recreation Board Director and Superintendent. He would face Democratic incumbent Ted Harhai in the general election.

It’s an unusual seat: the district is 61.4% Dem to 29.5% GOP in registration, but Romney beat Obama 56% to 44% in HD58. Smith beat Casey 51% to 49%.

HD-75: Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield) has a challenger: Democrat Jack Donahue. Donahue’s priorities, as listed on his website, are properly funded education, economic development and access to good paying family sustaining jobs, making sure communities and the environment are safe, and making sure government is spending our tax dollars wisely. Gabler won the district by ousting a Democrat, but the district was made more red in redistricting.

Great candidate headshot, or greatest candidate headshot?

HD-115: Maureen Madden of Coolbaugh Township announced today she will seek the Democratic nomination for the 115th Legislative District. Maureen Madden is a small business owner, adjunct professor at Northampton Community College (Monroe Campus) and is the mother of two policemen and spouse of a local musician.

The district is currently represented by Rep. Farina but is being sent south to Monroe County and his district merged with Haggerty’s. 49% of registered Democrats in the newly drawn 112th are Haggerty’s current voters. 43% reside in Farina’s current district.
