32BJ SEIU Endorses Kenyatta Johnson

Kenyatta-JohnsonKenyatta Johnson has won the endorsement of the Service Employees International Union 32BJ.

Johnson, a Democrat, is running for re-election to the City Council in Philadelphia’s 2nd District.

32BJ SEIU lists 22,000 members in Pennsylvania along with 145,000 members in eleven states and Washington, DC. It is the largest property service workers union in the country and includes security officers, school workers, and commercial office cleaners.

“Working families need stronger champions like Kenyatta Johnson to deliver real improvements in public education and in the creation of good jobs,” said Gabe Morgan, 32BJ’s Pennsylvania Director. “Kenyatta has been at the forefront of the fight to raise standards for Philadelphia International Airport workers, many of whom live in his district. And he led the charge to add Philly to the growing list of cities to raise their minimum wage to $15 per hour.”

“The members of 32BJ SEIU are some of the hardest working people in the Second District, and I’m proud to have their support,” the Councilman responded.

Johnson was especially happy to secure the endorsement this year as he is contending with a serious primary challenge from real estate developer Ori Feibush. Their contest is sure to be one of the most watched this primary season.
