3/7 Morning Buzz

PoliticsPA visited with the State Senate special election candidates in Reading this weekend. Check out our coverage of Senator Casey’s visit to a packed rally for Democrat Judy Schwank. Republican Larry Medaglia was also hard on the trail, and continued his outreach to voters (including those in the Latino community) over the weekend. And Senator Bob Casey thinks this special election is a chance for Democrats to turn the page on their 2010 losses.

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee had their endorsement meeting, and it proved to be a good day for County Council President Rich Fitzgerald. He walked away with a win, 923 votes to 918. That’s a 0.027% margin of victory, for those of you keeping score. Chelsa Wagner won a relatively easier endorsement by a vote of 755 to 672 over George Matta, with Valerie McDonald Roberts at 411.

Long-serving incumbent Philly Councilman Frank DiCicco announced that he will not seek re-election after facing serious heat for his participation in the controversial DROP program.

And don’t miss our exclusive report that PA’s Congressional delegation is coming to Harrisburg today to talk about, among other things, redistricting plans.
