5/9 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, here’s the Buzz. Santorum does Leno, the budget battle heats up in Harrisburg, and the Obama campaign pushes the student loan issue in PA.

Santorum on Leno: The former Senator and presidential candidate lays out why he endorsed Mitt Romney – in a somewhat tepid email at 11 o’clock at night.

Obama Camp, McCord Push Student Loan Message: Key Pennsylvania Democratic voices – including Treasurer Rob McCord – trumpeted Obama’s policies on keeping college affordable while criticizing Romney for not having a concrete plan in a conference call this afternoon.

VoteVets Backs Trivedi: Progressive veterans’ advocacy group VoteVets has endorsed Manan Trivedi, the Democrat running against Rep. Jim Gerlach. Trivedi served as a combat surgeon in Iraq, and the group has a noteworthy bankroll.

Freed Lays Out General Election Message in Web Video: Want a preview of Dave Freed’s general election argument? Check out this video. Freed, the Republican candidate for the position of state Attorney General says – without naming his opponent – that his experience as Cumberland County District Attorney sets him apart from Democrat Kathleen Kane.

Editor’s note: This week is a transition time for PoliticsPA and our regular collection of news clips will be abridged.
