8/15 Morning Buzz

Rick Santorum is calling 4th place a win. He may not have won this weekend’s Ames Iowa Straw Poll, but by outperforming several high-profile rivals, the former Senator met a key campaign goal and sess enough momentum to keep going.

Another name for Senate? PoliticsPA alum Alex Roarty has the scoop on Republican efforts to recruit businessman Tim Burns (of PA-12 special election fame) to run against Pennsylvania’s senior Senator. He fits the wealthy-self-funder-job-creator profile that GOP insiders have said would match well against Casey.

Following up on the Medicare TV ad against Rep. Pat Meehan from Thursday, it turns out it won’t be the king of mega-buy that some SEPA Republicans had worried. PoliticsPA has learned that about $6,000 is being spread around on local TV.

And don’t forget to check out Friday’s Ups & Downs.
