PAGOP Calls Dems on DNC Photo ID Rule: Democrats representing Pennsylvania at the Democratic National Convention have spent a great deal of time criticizing the state’s new voter ID law. But as the PA Republican Party notes, Dems are enforcing their own ID policy in Charlotte.

Nutter Hammers Romney on Education at DNC (Watch Video): Taking the stage in Charlotte Thursday evening, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter wasted little time laying into Mitt Romney. He talked about the Republican presidential hopeful’s ill-fated visit to a Philly school in May.

Fresh From Tampa, PAGOP Blasts Kane for Attending DNC: Less than a week removed from a trip to Florida, the PA Republican Party today dinged Attorney General hopeful Kathleen Kane for attending the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

Group Re-Running Anti-Corbett Ad (Watch Video): American Working Families began airing anti-Gov. Tom Corbett ads in late May and early June, despite the fact that Corbett isn’t up for reelection for another two years. But now the first ad, “Making Things Harder,” is back on the air.

Matt Smith Ad Promises to “Clean Up” Harrisburg (Watch Video): In his first TV ad spot, state Senate candidate Matt Smith features his wife and children while talking about cleaning up the state capital. He said that teaching his kids how to tidy up doesn’t always work, but promises that he will if elected.

Legislative election updates:

SD-37: Dem state Rep. Matt Smith joins his Republican rival Raja on television.

SD-47: The Pennsylvania Federation of Teachers (PFT) and the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculty (APSCUF) have endorsed Kimberly Villella, the Democrat seeking to unseat Sen. Elder Vogel (R-Beaver). “Pennsylvania’s schools are under threat of budget cuts and mass privatization. I know that educating all of our students is crucial to creating jobs and prosperity in our Commonwealth,” said Villella. “As a Senator, I will fight to protect and strengthen our public schools, colleges, and universities.”

HD-120: Aaron Kaufer, the Republican challenging Rep. Phyllis Mundy (D-Luzerne), has challenged the incumbent to a series of debate, but he’s not happy with the moderator she offered: the League of Women Voters. Mundy presided over the non-aligned group from 1985-1989, and Kaufer says he doesn’t want them to host the only debate. He’d like more than one debate; Mundy has said she’ll only give one.

HD-148: Mary Jo Daley, the Dem running to replace Mike Gerber, officially kicked off her campaign on Thursday in Conshohocken. Her campaign said she’s received fundraising pledges over $20,000. “I am running for State Representative at a time when progressive democratic values, organized labor and women are under assault in Pennsylvania,” Daley said.  “I offer voters of the 148th House District a record of long-term public service and professional work experience. I understand some battles are worth fighting and that there are times when finding common ground is the best solution.”
