9/8 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, and welcome to the buzz.

Redistricting Watch: Pittsburgh’s North Hills may not end up in the 4th District. The heavily-GOP region of northern Allegheny County may find a new home in Rep. Tim Murphy’s district, sources indicate. And in Allentown, Monroe County raised hell trying to get better state legislative districts. Will they get it? Here are details of yesterday’s redistricting hearing.

Marcellus Convention: At the Shale Gas Insight Conference in Philadelphia, a five member panel including Pennsylvania Congressmen Jason Altmire, Mark Critz, Tim Murphy, Joe Pitts, drilled down into the issues surrounding the drilling of Marcellus Shale and its economical potential throughout the state. Check back later for more PoliticsPA coverage of the two-day event.

Man with a Plan in a Van (Video): Eugene DePasquale’s campaign for Auditor General released a get-to-know-you video this week. It does a good job capturing the York lawmaker’s quirky, sincere style, but the real star is his light blue Ford Winstar.

GOP Debate: Curious how Senator Santorum did at last night’s forum in the Reagan Library? The Morning Call’s Colby Itkowitz has the rundown, God bless her. (Spoiler: his percentage of questions roughly corresponds to his national poll numbers). Meanwhile his latest web video, which pivots from doom and gloom to Norman Rockwell’s America, can be seen on PoliticsPA’s home page.

Same-Sex Marriage in PA? A recent F&M poll showed 50 percent of PA voters strongly or somewhat support a constitution amendment to allow same-sex marriage. But does it stand a chance? And are those numbers as solid as they seem?

Montco Commissioners: Labor Day has passed, and things are beginning to heat up in Montgomery County. Both campaigns are hitting the pavement this week.

Allegheny Exec: In the race for Allegheny County Executive, the Raja camp has created a website attacking Rich Fitzgerald.

Allegheny Dems: A writer over at Infinonymous has the local party in a tizzy over a brutal take down of recent party efforts. Agree or disagree, it is a highly amusing read.
