Altmire Leads Out Q3 Announcements at $375K

By Keegan Gibson and Brittany Hundzynski

It’s that time of year again: the four-times-annual measure of federal candidates’ financial strength.

Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Allegheny) lead out the third quarter fundraising announcements this time around, reporting a healthy $375,000 raised during the period from July 1 through September 30. His campaign is calling it the best Q3 he’s ever had. He’s got over $700,000 cash on hand.

Odds are he’ll need it.

Republican Keith Rothfus has already announced another challenge, and PA Rep. Jim Christiana (R-Beaver) is also considering a bid.

And that’s before redistricting. There are a number of different scenarios floating around, and practically every one of them represents a headache for Altmire.

Most are expecting an intra-party matchup between Altmire and Rep. Mark Critz (D-Cambria), but it’s also conceivable that the new map will lump Altmire’s North Hills home into the Pittsburgh-based district of Rep. Mike Doyle.

It’s also been rumored – and seems increasingly likely – that Republicans will shift the North Hills into Rep. Tim Murphy’s 18th district. If that’s the case, Altmire could be forced to run for a re-election in a district where he doesn’t currently reside.

Spokespeople for Critz and Rothfus did not respond to inquiries about their fundraising numbers.
