ALTMIRE: TODAY’S USITC RULING IS GOOD NEWS FOR AMERICA’S STEEL INDUSTRY

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) welcomed the U.S. International Trade Commission’s (USITC) ruling that TMK IPSCO, U.S. Steel, and other domestic steel manufacturers are being threatened with injury by heavily subsidized, Chinese seamless pipe imports. In September, Congressman Altmire testified before the USITC to support American steel producers’ petition for relief from these unfairly traded imports. As a result of the USITC’s ruling today, the U.S. Department of Commerce will now impose antidumping and countervailing duties on Chinese seamless pipe imports.

“In western Pennsylvania, we have seen first hand how unfairly traded foreign steel damages America’s steel industry,” Congressman Altmire said. “As a result of this ruling, America’s steel producers will now receive much-needed relief. American workers produce the highest quality steel products in the world, and they deserve to have the opportunity to compete in a fair market.”
