ALTMIRE WELCOMES FAA PROPOSALS TO IMPROVE AIR AMBULANCE SAFETY

ALTMIRE WELCOMES FAA PROPOSALS TO IMPROVE AIR AMBULANCE SAFETY

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Today, U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) welcomed the Federal Aviation Administration’s newly-released proposals for how to make air ambulances safer. As a member of the House Transportation Committee’s Subcommittee on Aviation, Congressman Altmire has led efforts in Congress to improve the safety of air medical transport. In September, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report requested by Congressman Altmire that studied how the air ambulance industry is regulated and how current rules affect patient care and safety. Congressman Altmire also introduced legislation in 2009 that would protect states’ ability to regulate medical care aboard air ambulances.

“The unacceptably high number of air ambulance accidents and fatalities in recent years clearly shows that more needs to be done to protect patients and reduce preventable accidents,” Congressman Altmire said. “The FAA’s proposed regulations are another important step forward in our ongoing efforts to make air emergency medical transportation as safe as possible.”
