Are Indian Outsourcing Companies Backing Pat Meehan’s Campaign?

Springfield, PA – Pat Meehan’s campaign is benefiting from $325,000 in television ads being run by the U.S. chamber of Commerce amid growing concerns that money the chamber raises from overseas corporations is being used to fund the group’s ads.

It’s no surprise that foreign corporations that benefit from American jobs that are shipped overseas like Indian outsourcing companies would want to support the U.S. Chamber of Commerce or Pat Meehan’s campaign. The president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been a vocal proponent of corporate outsourcing and Pat Meehan signed a pledge that bound it to oppose legislation that would have closed a tax loophole that ships American jobs overseas.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue has spoken publicly about the Chamber’s support for outsource noting that “the business community will fight any attempts by our government to restrict outsourcing,” and ‘The criticism about outsourcing is simply political posturing…it benefits everybody.”

“Obviously the attraction of Pat Meehan’s campaign to foreign donors and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is that he will support policies that allow corporations to make large profits by sending American jobs overseas at the expense of working families in the 7th District and around the nation,” said Kevin McTigue, campaign manager of Bryan Lentz, the Democratic nominee for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.

Since early September, Meehan’s campaign has been benefiting from hundreds of thousands of dollars in television advertising that is difficult to trace. Americans for Job Security, a group that news reports have documented serves as a front group for anonymous corporate donations, also announced last month that it was spending more than $300,000 on television ads for Meehan’s campaign.

Bryan Lentz has made saving and creating jobs the cornerstone of his campaign for Congress, including  pledging to end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. He is the only candidate with a published plan to get our economy moving while erasing the deficit and the only candidate who supports Wall Street reform and the creation of a consumer financial protection agency to ensure another collapse does not happen.

A former Airborne Ranger, criminal prosecutor and Iraq War veteran, Bryan Lentz currently serves in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Delaware County. He was awarded both the Bronze Star for Service and the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for his military service. He lives in Swarthmore with his wife Jennifer and their son Thomas.
