Arkoosh Names Campaign Team (Mostly)

Congressional hopeful Valerie Arkoosh has selected some of the political pros who will assist her effort to succeed Rep. Allyson Schwartz.

Arkoosh, of Montgomery County, is a physician (she teaches medicine at Penn) and progressive activist. She raised $218,000 in the first quarter of this year.

“We’ve put together a team of the most well-respected and experienced names in Democratic politics, with a track record of winning tough races across the country,” said Dr. Arkoosh. “I’m proud to be working with such an outstanding group.”

It’s not the definitive list. One big position that’s missing: campaign manager. The campaign is still in the process of choosing one says Arkoosh’s initial staffer Julia Fahl.

“I was just short term consultant to help Dr. Arkoosh file and get her team together. I am currently transitioning out of the campaign and am just doing some small tasks while Ellen Sun (FD) transitions in,” Fahl said.

Fahl is a local politico who now works for CeaseFirePA.

Arkoosh faces the likelihood of a crowded Democratic primary. State Reps. Brandon Boyle and Mark Cohen (D-Phila) have both filed to run as has state Sen. Daylin Leach. Former Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky also appears likely to run.

Leach announced his campaign team earlier in April, and Boyle named a pair of consultants on his race.

Here are the staffer and consultant bios from the Arkoosh campaign release:

Ellen Sun, Finance Director. A Pennsylvania native, Ellen recently worked in Florida’s 10th Congressional District for Chief Val Demings, on her Red to Blue and EMILY’s List endorsed campaign. Prior to that Ellen worked for Stones’ Phones, an organization dedicated to helping their clients reach out to voters nationwide. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Ellen began her political career in the EMILY’s List Political Department, where she worked with progressive, pro-choice female candidates and campaign staff, helping them prepare to run for office.

The Strategy Group. Founded in 1989 by progressive campaign professionals committed to the idea that strategy makes the difference between winning and losing, The Strategy Group has grown into a national firm with an unparalleled record of success, including serving as lead direct mail consultants to President Obama, US Senator Tammy Baldwin, US Senator Michael Bennet and numerous members of Congress nationwide.

Headquartered in Chicago with offices in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento, the firm represents electoral clients across the country from city council to President of the United States and virtually every office in between.

The Mellman Group. Recently named “Pollster of the Year” for the third time by the American Association of Political Consultants, The Mellman Group has provided
sophisticated opinion research and strategic advice to political leaders, public interest organizations, Fortune 500 companies, and government agencies for over thirty years. The firm also worked in the independent efforts to re-elect Senators Sherrod Brown, Mazie Hirono, Tim Kaine, Claire McCaskill and Jon Tester and to elect Governors Steve Bullock and Jay Inslee. The New York Times’ Nate Silver rated The Mellman Group the most accurate campaign pollster in the country.

  1. Senator Leach is my state senator. He has my vote and support. I have admired his courage in fighting for comprehensive GLBT equality and fighting for working class Pennsylvanian families.
