Beck, Lane Win Seats On PA Superior Court

Jill Beck, Timika Lane

Jill Beck and Timika Lane were victorious for the two openings on the Pennsylvania Superior Court, giving Democrats a majority on the appellate court.

Beck, a 44-year-old commercial litigator and appellate attorney, received the most support in the four-way race, garnering 1,529,548 or 27.8 percent.

Lane, a 51-year-old judge on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, currently sits second with 1,388,526 or 25.2 percent.

Republicans Maria Battista and Harry Smail Jr. trail with 24.4 and 22.6 percent of the vote, respectively.

The 15-member Superior Court hears appeals of civil and criminal cases from county courts. The two seats are open because one Republican judge retired and another Republican judge will reach the mandatory retirement age of 75 this year. The court currently has seven members elected as Republicans and seven elected as Democrats.
