Biden Begins 1st General Election Ad Blitz in PA

The Democratic presidential hopeful is launching his campaign’s first ad blitz for the general election in six states, including Pennsylvania.

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign announced in a release on Thursday morning that they are spending $15 million in a five-week TV, digital, radio, and print advertising effort in six states that voted for President Donald Trump in 2016, including the Keystone State.

A release from the Biden campaign didn’t specify which markets in Pennsylvania that the ads will be airing, but noted that there will also be a “national cable component that includes Fox News.”

Two, one minute-long spots, “My Commitment” and “Unite Us” are playing in Pennsylvania that feature clips of Biden talking about unity in a recent address from Philadelphia.

“The ads feature Biden in his own voice. A voice of clarity and moral authority that the country desperately needs,” said Patrick Bonsignore, Director of Paid Media, Biden for President. “The audio is pulled from his searing address on this moment in history from Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation. It was an address that Donald Trump could never give.”

The Trump Victory effort shot back in a comment claiming that Biden has been “out of sight in his basement bunker,” and touted their outreach to voters in Pennsylvania.

“While Joe Biden keeps out of sight in his basement bunker, President Trump is busy launching the Great American Comeback and getting Pennsylvanians back to work,” said Trump Victory Spokeswoman Melissa Reed. “Couple his record of results with a ground operation in Pennsylvania that has already made over 3.6 million voter contacts, and Pennsylvania will deliver another victory for President Trump in November.”

The Biden campaign has also made a six-figure investment in African American print, radio, and targeted digital programing in each of the six states in the ad buy, which began on Juneteenth.

The New York Times reports that as of last Monday, the Trump campaign spent nearly $22.7 million in advertising since this spring, according to data from Advertising Analytics, although it didn’t specify how much has been spent in Pennsylvania.

While traditional campaigning has been limited due to COVID-19, both campaigns have made an effort to visit the state in recent months.

Biden has made three separate visits to the Philadelphia area in June alone, with his most recent trip being on June 17 in Delaware County where he talked about his plans for reopening the economy in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Vice President Mike Pence met with community and faith leaders in western Pennsylvania on June 12 for the “Great American Comeback Tour,” which is aimed at “promoting policies that will drive America’s economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Trump’s most recent appearance in the state was when he spoke for 30 minutes at a medical equipment distribution center in the Lehigh Valley in mid-May.

The most recent polling show a tight race between the former VP and Trump in the Keystone State, although Biden currently has a narrow edge.

The Real Clear Politics average shows Biden besting Trump by 5.6 points in Pennsylvania.

  1. Do not underestimate the power of the Biden Scranton connection. It is a HUGE DEAL to have a President of the United States from your hometown. It will have immense impact across the Commonwealth and affect those races in “toss up” districts like Cartwright and Fitzpatrick’s Congressional Districts. If this were the stock market good investors would be buying Dem stock in the Lackawanna, Luzerne and Bucks County Congressional District races. Good year to be a Dem Congressional Candidate in the Cartwright and Fitzpatrick Districts.

      1. I haven’t heard Biden recommend injecting bleach. I did hear Trump suggest it.

  2. Biden is a voice of reason, while Trump is a voice of evil fascism and greed.
