Brady Campaign Aide Pleads Guilty in Federal Probe

Donald “D.A.” Jones, a top consultant to Congressman Bob Brady (D-Philadelphia) plead guilty to lying to federal agents in the FBI’s probe into Brady’s campaign paying off a primary opponent in 2012.

According to the Inquirer, as part of the agreement Jones will cooperate with the FBI’s investigation.

“I accept full responsibility for my actions and consider my guilty plea a first step in making amends. I apologize to the people of Philadelphia and to my family for bringing this dishonor upon them,” Jones said after the hearing.

The FBI has been investigating allegations that Brady’s campaign paid former Municipal Judge Jimmie Moore $90,000 to end his primary challenge.

Late last month, the FBI let an agreement with Brady extending the statute of limitations on certain charges expire, but some of the possible charges against Brady have not had their statute of limitations expire.

  1. The one thing that is different from most other involving corrupt elected officials in Philadelphia’s Democratic organization is that Bob Brady is not being accused of putting money in his own pocket. In some ways it is similar to the accusations against Senator Farnese. Accordingly, if charges are brought against Bob Brady, he most likely won’t be convicted. The case against him so far seems pretty weak.

  2. either the feds need to move more quickly, or the statutes of limitations need to be lengthened for cases such as this one. and i wonder if Brady will eventually lose HIS pension ???)

  3. Bob Brady should have been in Jail Decades ago for all the stunts he’s pulled

  4. @David Diano-
He should testify against Bob Brady. No way did Mr. Jones authorize $90,000 without Bob’s knowledge. People on Brady’s staff can’t take a shit without his knowledge.
Bob’s very old school and would never utilize e-mail, text or phone which is why nothing was found when they looked. His orders are ALWAYS verbal.

    1. Paul-

      Of course.

If it was $90 they might have been able to do it on their own, but not $90,000. The level of effort for Brady to raise $90,000 is the clearest reason for why he’d have to be told of such a large expenditure.

Besides, hasn’t Jimmy Moore testified that Brady was in on it? Sounds like they wanted to flip a staffer with direct knowledge, before going after Brady, to build on Moore’s testimony (and maybe confirm the timeline).

Also, I saw one article early in this case suggesting that Brady may have tried to “get his story straight” with potential witnesses in ways that could be construed as witness tampering or obstruction of justice.

It’s looking more like a question of WHEN rather than IF for Brady.

  5. “Jones will cooperate with the FBI’s investigation.”

Translation: Jones will testify against Bob Brady
