BREAKING: Kane Announces She Won’t Run for Re-Election

Kane Press ConferenceAttorney General Kathleen Kane officially announced today that she will not seek re-election.

Kane called a press conference to reveal the news and sought at first to tout her accomplishments.

“I believe that we’ve had great successes”, she stated. “We’ve made great strides and there’s more work to be done.”

“Every single day since I was elected, I’ve tried to clean up this commonwealth,” Kane continued. “I told you I would fight corruption and I’m fighting corruption, regardless of the cost to me.”

An emotional Kane went on to mention her two sons. She noted that they’ve gone from the ages of 8 and 9 from when she first started the job to 14 and 15, “little boys to young men” as she put it.

Kane also referred to herself as a single mother (she divorced her husband in December 2014 and has previously brought up her sons in a press conference.

“I love being the Attorney General, I love serving the people of Attorney General. I hope they know that,” she stated. “While I love Pennsylvania, I love my sons first.”

“This was not an easy decision but I will not seek the Democratic nomination for re-election as Attorney General.”

She went on to cite the recent Harper poll showing her leading the other Democrats running and asserted that this decision is solely the result of wanting to spend more time with her sons. She did not, however, give any indication that she will resign before January.

Finally, Kane mentioned a picture of Bobby Kennedy that sits in her office although her announcement is more reminiscent of LBJ’s 1968 pledge to forego re-election.

While the AG is giving up on re-election, it does not appear that she is giving up on her fight.

“I will rest peacefully knowing that we marched into hell to fight an unheavenly foe,” she concluded.

  1. It seems that Jerry, Jessica and SpongeBob are the same poster.

Wait, what: I totally agree. The scary thing is that these people can, whenever they want, use a corrupt system to ruin the lives of regular people. And then when it is time for them to face the music, they run and hide. Eakin’s behavior and the cover up attempts by his cohorts have truly been an eye-opening experience with regard to Pennsy’s Supreme Court. Kane will eventually get credit for helping to bring those behaviors to the forefront.

  2. David, you were owned by Jessica. I heard the mic drop from here. As for what I posted if the FBI wants to have a chat with me, sure why not. Except since I know more about the law then you do, yeah that’s not going to happen. The information I posted does not violate and grand jury secrecy rules. I implied that you act like a know it all so if anything interesting happened last week you must know. As for citing things like CHRIA or CJIS etc.. you would know CHRIA is a state issue not fed however it does specify how and when criminal justice information can be stored, transmitted, etc… This could be relevant because in case you haven’t heard Kane sent a drive to someone out of state, possibly not covered under certain requirements, or possibly in violation of federal statutes governing the storing of PHI, FTI and CJI data. But sure if the feds want to visit me the can come to 236 conrners…… wait that’s not right

  3. Jessica, I used to like Diano………no not really, I felt sorry for him. Yeah you’re right no one likes him and he is a no nothing hack.

  4. eagleswing –

I was looking for Kane petitions to sign at the events I attended. Many of my political friends support Kane, particularly the women in politics who have experienced the “old boys club” first hand.

After all his bullsh*t about running for two offices at once, and his fundraising, Brian Sims didn’t even submit petitions for Congress.

    rsklaroff-

Your “prognostication” is extracted from your hindquarters. The effort against Kane is partisanipsh-motivated, not partisanship-blocked. Exposing Eakin (and Fina) was good for the Dems.

    SpongeBob-

As usual, you are engaging in nonsense and pretending to know stuff. If the FBI monitors this site, and you are leaking grand jury information, or even aware of information leaked to you, they can subpoena the records of PoliticsPA, track your IP down, and haul your ass in for questioning.

You are saying the information has been discussed before, yet you seem to be independently confirming it, suggesting that you are in possession of grand jury information that you shouldn’t have. But, somehow (in your world), Kane is a criminal for allegedly leaking information about prosecutorial misconduct in an old/irrelevant case.

From the acronyms, it sounds like you are claiming that people looked up the health and financial records of other people.

  5. Diano — As I have said before, your ignorance is as relentless as it is boundless.

Do yourself a favor a check State Democratic Party Chairman Groen’s Facebook post of on or about January 26, 2016.

Since you won’t look, I will tell you what you see.

“Please find below a list of contact information for our Statewide candidates. Please contact the campaigns for petitions for your county. Thank you in advance for helping campaigns circulate petitions[.]”

It then goes on to list, among other things, the private contact information for Kathleen Kane’s campaign.

This is why no one–repeat: no one–likes you, David. You’re a loud-mouthed, talentless, do-nothing hack.

  6. Hence me saying the bare minimum. Also the additional info I have provided has been talked about or questioned before as well. So while pertinent to last week, not new after the emails were sent to Gansler these were talked about as concerns.

  7. SpongeBob. Have no idea as to what you are referring to but of course you’ll want to be careful to not reveal anything that might be connected with a Federal Grand Jury. Not saying it is or not. Just reminding you of secrecy rules that may apply.

  8. David knows everything so he can tell you. But I will say these acronyms are important. CHRIA, CJIS, HIPAA and IRS1075.

  9. when a paid circulator approached people to sign her petition for Kane at a recent large event in PA, i saw not one person willing to sign. it would be interesting to look at Kane’s campaign finance statements and see how much $ she put in before her decision to not run . that being said, she did bring us the evidence that several top officials are sexist racist homophobic bigots who do not deserve to hold any public office of trust. i that her for that– but note that had she been quicker on the ball to reveal those emails, she might have taken down her enemies without their having taken down her.

  10. @ d2:

My prognostication is legal-based, blocked by partisanship; it is also predicated on what would be best for the Commonweal and, indeed, for the Dem-party.

  11. Jessica Meyers-

We really need to set up a remedial reading program for you and your friends here.

I said that I didn’t see petitions for her at the two county conventions that I attended (Delco and Montco).

Thus, I didn’t have high expectations that she was running since there wasn’t even a minimal effort attempting to distribute petitions, despite PLENTY of people who support her and would have been happy to sign her petitions. Given her great performance in the only poll for the race, I had hoped she would run.

    SpongeBob-

No evidence that “the Feds” said anything to her last week (or the week before that, or the week before that, etc..)

    jmarshak-

Maybe she got a book deal? Would be a good read.

  12. Has anyone heard from HaHaHa today? He should probably be on suicide watch after he hears this news. His lord and savior Kathleen isn’t seeking four more years to fight the RePERVlican CLOWN CAR!!!

  13. Maybe she is spending time with her sons now because when she goes to jail she won’t have custody? I wonder what the Feds said to her last week that scared her so much?

  14. Thank you, General Kane for your hard work protecting our children, and fighting the war on drugs in our state.
Best wishes in the next chapter of your life.

  15. Diano didn’t see petitions, therefore they didn’t exist.

    Follow that logic, everyone?

Plainly, she couldn’t muster 1,000 sigs. Nothing more, nothing less.

  16. So, who here thinks she dropped out because she didn’t have enough signatures to get on the ballot (the deadline was today)?

  17. rsklaroff

Your “review of the database” has produced failed prediction after failed prediction. Kane is STILL in office.

It’s mind boggling how illogical you are. You claim to use superior methodology, yet have zero track record.

Kane STILL hasn’t been brought to trial. Given likely court delays, Kane will serve about 95% off her term, before there is a verdict (if there even is a trial).

    flynnbw
Murphy was politician not a prosecutor. He admitted to donors that he was running for AG just so he could run for Gov.
Sorry I can’t vote for Kane again.

  18. Just like Diano’s over political girlfriend, stephanie singer, Kathy Kane just couldn’t get enough signatures to get on the ballot.

  19. As a Murphy supporter, I was always annoyed by her “Prosecutor, not a Politician” line. I hope it has become clear to everyone that in order to be a successful AG you must be at once both a prosecutor AND a politician.

  20. Guilty or innocent, you can’t blame her for getting out of the hellhole called elected office. It has really become a very toxic environment with partisans on both sides digging in and refusing to work together for the common good. I wish her well in her life. Next up:Tom Wolfe followed by the state House of Representatives.

  21. @ d2:

My predictions were based upon review of the database, recognizing that politics could intervene…which occurred; as a result, AG-Kane “enjoys” a Pyrrhic Victory [that, today, she has begun to “savor”].

Contrariwise, your predictions are based upon the totality of political judgments and, thus, when they do not materialize, your professional mien will have been fractured.

  22. Rumor has it-

This doesn’t “collapse” anything. I hadn’t seen any Kane petitions at recent county events I attended, though I would have happily signed for her. So, it was becoming clear she wasn’t going to run (despite the great poll numbers). It’s her call whether to run or not. I don’t blame her for wanting to avoid the hassle of a campaign.

Besides, this gives her more time to work on a tell-all book.

    rsklaroff-

You realize that I’m making a prediction on what the DA will do. Do you admit “error” on all your failed predictions of
    1) Kane resigning at the end of last summer
    2) Kane removed from office at the end of last summer
    3) Kane replaced by the governor
    4) Kane removed by the Senate

This is a political prosecution. The trial is meaningless, if Kane isn’t running for second term. So, Josh’s friends don’t need/want the trial. And the GOP doesn’t want all their dirty laundry coming out in a trial and Fina on the stand.

The DA will drop the perjury/felony charges (which are there ONLY for leverage and plea bargaining away). He’ll offer to drop that in exchange for plea to the misdemeanors, and no jail-time, in order to avoid a pointless trial, that will be an embarrassment to the Montco DA’s office.

    Smokescreens –

Fina and pals don’t want their smokescreen examined too closely.

  23. Good Choice for Kathleen Kane did made because she would lose to somebody else in the primary or the general election. and for I also supported for somebody else instead of her for the position anyway.

  24. dis storie aint true kaitlyn kain aint rezining she gonna run again, the girl on the tevee today wuz the sistar of the genral attunry,

  25. Every “tall tale” can only last so long. Mark Twain once wrote, “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything”

The truth can withstand any kind of reporters’ questioning…..and any kind of cross-examination.

On the other hand, a carefully manufactured “tall tale” has to be selectively told….and can not withstand cross-examination.

The August trial for Kane will be very tricky to navigate.

  26. @ Huh?:

The quote was based upon “when she first started the job” and not when she first started campaigning for it; thus, her arithmetic is indeed askew [along with everything else she seems to have done].

    @ d2:

Add your prediction to the list of those which have failed; when the DA initiates the prosecution, will you admit error?

  27. Anybody who regularly talks to important and knowing Democrats (not the unimportant state committee or county committee people who are no more than little minnows pretending to be whales) knew this was coming for a while. As I mentioned a few days ago, she did not have the resources or support to run a serious re-election campaign, but would blame her opponents rather than admitting that.

    https://www.politicspa.com/kane-reacts-to-senate-vote-in-new-interview-video/72681/

I know this collapses David Diano’s little world, but he should learn not every not every prosecution is based on politics. Montco DA Kevin Steele was a longtime nonpolitical Assistant District Attorney. It is unlikely he will drop the case or cut her a “sweetheart deal” just because she is not running for re-election. He believes there is a good case to be made, and his office will make it.

Prosecution is not persecution just because you and the defendant share a common political party or ideology.

  28. Please spare me the nastiness of watching people harangue Ms. Kane. Trial in the press and by the media has taken place and we have opinions without all of the facts.

This is exactly what we don’t need! What we need now is to allow due process and let the chips fall where they may. Enough of us behaving in such personal ways toward people who are accused of all sorts of misdeeds but who have a right to a trial by a jury and now that she has resigned herself to not running this time could we exercise our manners and support of our system of judicial justice, instead of our angst and anger on her for our own failures as citizen’s in cleaning out the AG office for several administrations?

  29. Dick Miller-

PA’s odious petition requirements for Independents are designed to make statewide ballot near impossible outside the two major parties.

  30. KSDF: Nice math skills, but do you think she started running on Election Day 2012? I remember her at DSC meeting at Seven Springs in Spring 2011, and she was running before that.

  31. “An emotional Kane went on to mention her two sons. She noted that they’ve gone from the ages of 8 and 9 from when she first started the job to 14 and 15, “little boys to young men” as she put it.”

    Umm… 8+4=12 and 9+4=13

  32. While the PCN coverage of her press conference was garbled at times, I believe she limited her announcement to acknowledging she will not seek the Democrat nomination for re-election. This still leaves her the option of running as an independent with petitions due later this summer. That has become a bit easier with electronic voting. There is still time for a strong candidate to run as an independent for President.

In an election year that is already the most tumultuous in history, is this not feasible?

  33. Unknown-

What are odds of Montco DA (current or former) getting perp-walked by the G-men while Kane watches on?

  34. Diano: That is entirely possible. IF the beleaguered Attorney General cooperates with the G-Men…

  35. The Bazzano-Zappala-Porter mafia’s war on women claims another victim. Shame on her for revisiting the Sandusky scandal, the cash for kids scandal and exposing the porn e mail scandal. When she went after Tommy, the mob’s garbage man, she whacked herself.

  36. “I will rest peacefully knowing that we marched into hell to fight an unheavenly foe.”

Delusions of grandeur, much? Ready for Josh Shaprio now.

  37. That last line looks like a rip off of Man of LaMancha’s To Dream the Impossible Dream. That speaks volumes.
Here’s betting she didn’t have the signatures.

  38. No matter how much you don’t want to “play politics,” you better be able to fight if you get into the ring. And Kane just never knew how. And yet, despite what she said this afternoon, I’ll bet she’d have run in the primary if she had been able to get a petition drive going.
