Casey Ad Doubles Down on Tea Party, Medicare Attacks (Watch Video)

Sen. Bob Casey is taking off the gloves and doubling down on GOP challenger Tom Smith’s ties to the Tea Party – and some of its controversial proposed legislation.

“Tom called the Tea Party budget, ‘a good plan.’ It’s the most radical in Congress,” a narrator says. “A plan that would end Medicare in 2 years, even for current recipients. And cut Social Security benefits by 40 percent.”

It cites Smith from a GOP primary forum back in March, when he expressed kind words about  a budget proposed by Sen. Rand Paul, meant as a more conservative alternative to the Ryan budget.

Smith’s campaign sought to deflect criticism back to Casey and his vote for Obamacare.

“Senator Bob Casey’s latest ad is another example of how he is running from his record, and the truth.  His latest false attacks are a sad attempt to hide the fact that he voted to cut Medicare funding by more than $700 billion.  Unlike Bob Casey, Tom has proposed a common sense plan to save Medicare and Social Security from bankruptcy,” said Megan Piwowar, Smith’s Communications Director.

Polls have shown the race growing tighter over recent weeks, and Smith – with the help of self-loans – has more campaign cash on hand than the first term Democratic Senator.

  1. I am backtracking to document #WarOnTeaParty I feel was conducted by all Democrats from the top down for several years. Therefore interesting that it seems all of Senator Casey’s 2012 campaign videos are now private. (I have verified such for two of them.) Something to hide?

  2. Those of us who know Smith from his Democratic days (not that long ago) clearly remember his rants. Eliminating Social Security was a big one. Between his millions and his wife’s teacher pension, he will never be affected by such a move. He can make his commercials saying his mom is on Medicare and he wouldn’t jeopardize it but that goes against everything he preached over the past several years. I don’t know about you but why should I allow a wealthy man like Tom Smith take away what I worked for all those years?

  3. What is Sen. Casey’s plan going forward for jobs, for entitlements, for anything? Based on his record, we can think his plan includes more spending, more borrowing and more deficit spending. Not a good way to grow the economy. Tom Smith has a real world, viable plan.
