[Update: Postponed!] Lt. Gov Cawley, Bucks GOP Commissioners to Face Down Hurricane Irene for Fundraiser

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Update: Around 10pm, Loughery announced via facebook that the event will be postponed:

“We’re going to postpone the event for obvious reasons due to the weather forecast…thanks to all who were supporting us. Hopefully things will be fine down the shore for the homeowners and residents.”

When you have Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley scheduled to host your fundraising event, you don’t cancel because of a little inclement weather.

As Weather Chanel talking heads warn of the impending doom of Hurricane Irene, Bucks County Republican Commissioners Charley Martin and Rob Loughery are going forward with a planned event in Somers Point, NJ, between Ocean City and Atlantic City.

The “Surf’s Up! Ride the Tide to the Jersey Shore” fundraiser is scheduled from 3-5pm on Saturday, mere hours before Irene’s 100mph winds and storm surge are forecast to lash the Garden State as a category 2 storm.

Hosts include (former Bucks Commissioner) Jim and Mrs. Cawley and PA Senators Tommy Tomlinson and Chuck McIlhinney. The event is being organized by frequent Bucks GOP donor – and one-time controversial county employee – Chuck Benhayon. Attendees can pay $100 per plate ($150 per couple) to batten down the hatches at Gregory’s Restaurant and Bar over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

  1. Doesn’t anyone know how to make a PDF? Why are people still sending out invitations as .DOC files? Is everyone taking crazy pills?
