CBS/YouGov Poll: Biden 51, Trump 44

Former Vice President Joe Biden maintains a several point lead over President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, according to this latest poll. 

A new CBS News poll conducted by YouGov shows Biden leading Trump by 7 points, 51-to-44, among likely voters in the state. Biden’s lead has grown by 1 point in comparison to the most recent CBS/YouGov poll conducted in early August that showed Biden leading Trump by 6 points, 49-to-43. 

According to the analysts at FiveThirtyEight, YouGov favors Democrats by an average of 0.4% and has an overall B grade. 

A majority of likely voters like the way that Biden handles himself personally, while two-thirds of voters don’t like the way that Trump handles himself personally. 54% said that they like how Biden handles himself personally, regardless of how they feel about his policies, while 46% said that they don’t like the way Biden handles himself.  32% said that they like how Trump handles himself personally, regardless of how they feel about his policies, while 68% said that they don’t like the way Trump handles himself. 

Trump has the slight edge over Biden on the economy and protecting American manufacturing, while Biden is trusted more on healthcare and responding to the coronavirus pandemic. 

46% of likely voters said that Trump would do a better job handling the economy, while 45% said that Biden would do a better job on the matter. 46% of likely voters said that Trump would do a better job protecting American manufacturing jobs, while 44% said Biden would do a better job on the matter. 

51% said that Biden would do a better job handling the coronavirus outbreak, while 38% said that Trump would do a better job handling it. 

54% said that a Biden administration would help people get affordable health care, while 33% said that a Biden presidency would make it harder to get affordable health care, and 13% said that Biden becoming president wouldn’t impact health care. 

51% said that the policies of the Trump administration are making it harder to get affordable health care, while 30% said that the Trump administration’s policies are helping people get affordable health care, and 18% said that their policies are not impacting health care. 

This latest poll was conducted after the presidential debate, but prior to Trump’s positive COVID-19 announcement. 

Numerous polls released over the past week show Biden leading Trump in the state, although the margin varies by the pollster. 

A Fox News poll of likely voters in the state conducted Sept 20-23 showed Biden holding a 7 point lead over Trump, 51-to-44. A Washington Post/ABC News poll released last Tuesday also showed Biden with a 9 point lead, 54-to-45, among likely voters in PA. A New York Times/Siena College poll of likely voters released after the presidential debate shows Biden carrying a 7 point lead over Trump, 49-to-42. Two GOP leaning polls also have Biden with an advantage in the state. A poll commissioned by Restoration PAC, a conservative super PAC, commissioned by Trafalgar Group, released last week showed Biden leading by just over 2 points, 48.1%-to-45.9%, with likely voters in the state. A Federalist/TIPP poll of likely voters released last week has Biden leading Trump by 5 points, 49-to-44.  

The Real Clear Politics Average shows Biden besting Trump by 6.5 points in Pennsylvania.

This poll surveyed 1,202 registered voters, which collected data between Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, has a +/-3.1% margin of error.
