PA Firms Honored at the 2015 Pollie Awards

PollieThe 2015 Pollie Awards were held last week in New Orleans.

The ceremony, sponsored by the American Association of Political Consultants, honors the best campaign work of the past year.

Ampersand Consulting

Pittsburgh’s Ampersand Consulting took home one bronze prize for their Democratic party mailer “Your own money”.

According to the group, it was the second straight year they won a Pollie.

Berman and Company

The D.C. firm Berman and Company won a silver for a billboard on the Pennsylvania Turnpike using Yoko Ono that asked, “Would you take energy advice from the woman who broke up the Beatles?”

Brabender Cox

Pittsburgh’s BrabenderCox received the most plaudits, with nine Pollie awards.

Out of those nine, three prizes were gold. Their TV ad, “Day and Night”, for Lee Zeldin was judged the best negative/contrast ad for a Republican congressional candidate. They won the same prize in the State Legislature division for Rich Funke’s “Repeat Offender” commercial. The third came for New York’s Republican Party website.

BrabenderCox also received three silvers. Todd Young’s website won one for congressional campaigns. George Amedore’s announcement video won for state legislative web video. Amedore’s campaign also got them another silver for their “Flooding” radio ad.

Finally, the group won three bronze awards. Tom Corbett’s “No, No, No” spot was recognized in the Republican Governor category. They also won the same honor in the Democratic State Legislature category with Terrance Murphy’s “Selfie”. Last but not least, Amedore brought them one more award with “Matter of Trust”, the best use of a negative/contrast ad for a Republican state legislator.

Bronstein & Weaver, Inc.

The Bryn Mawr company Bronstein & Weaver, Inc. took home just one Pollie but they made it count with the gold for best TV ad for a Democratic State Rep. with a spot called, “Protecting our families, preserving our values.”

Cold Spark Media

The Pittsburgh-based consulting group Cold Spark Media walked away with three awards.

Two concerned PA campaigns as they won the Gold for “Best Throwback Candidate Mailer” for a bio piece on 2012 GOP Senate nominee Tom Smith. Cold Spark Media also won the Silver for “Best Mail Piece for an Absentee Ballot Initiative” for a piece done for the PA GOP.

Outside of the Keystone State, the group took home the Gold for “Best Mail Piece for an Independent Expenditure Senate Race” for a mailer that went after New Hampshire Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

Groundswell Public Strategies

The Des Moines consultants Groundswell Public Strategies won two silvers for their work for the Wolf campaign. They earned them for the website landing page and the best use of collateral.

Red Maverick Media

The Harrisburg firm Red Maverick Media won eight Pollies.

Ray Zaborney was honored as one of the night’s “40 under 40”.

The group won two golds. The first was for a Direct Mail piece titled “EPA” in the Candidates Division for Republican Congressmen. The second was for “We Can Win” a Prospect Mailer in the Fundraising Candidates Division.

Three more direct mail pieces won a silver award: “Help” for a SuperPAC, “Wrong Road” for a statewide organization, and “Ridiculous Bear” for best use of humor.

A bronze was given to “Independent Voice”, another direct mail piece for the PA GOP. Red Maverick Media also brought in one bronze for their state radio ad “Taxpayer Circus”.
