HARRISBURG, Jan. 26 – Centre County state Rep. Scott Conklin issued the following statement after today’s voting session of the House of Representatives was ended without consideration of Democratic amendments filed to several pieces of reform legislation:
 
“This was our first substantive debate scheduled on the issue of reform. The majority leaders blatantly calling an end to this voting session is the exact opposite of good and responsible governance. This is a misrepresentation of the 60,000 constituents that we are each here to serve.”
 
“From Governor Corbett’s office to the Republican leadership in the House, we have sadly taken a step backwards in the arena of legislative reform today. This parliamentary maneuver ironically comes as during Governor Corbett’s so-called ‘reform week’.”
 
“Silencing elected members of the General Assembly is a deliberate attack on our democracy.”
 
“I was also extremely disappointed to see the Governor and the House Majority leader back away from my call for a referendum on a Constitutional Convention.  These actions today cement my assertion that the legislature will not reform itself.  We need a citizen’s convention for real reform. Anything less is just window dressing in attempt to mislead the people of Pennsylvania.”
