Corbett’s Numbers on Par with Other GOP Govs

A number of recent polls have shown Governor Tom Corbett’s approval rating on the wane, but Capitol Ideas notes the unpopularity is shared by governors in other key swing states.

A Quinnipiac survey released last week showed Corbett net negative, with 36 percent of voters approving his performance and 47 percent disapproving.

Capitol Ideas caught this one, reporting that this misery has company:

In Florida, GOP Gov. Rick Scott had a 46 percent disapproval rating in a recent Quinnipiac canvass, the Washington Post’s politics blog The Fix reported in a post published Sunday.
In Ohio, Gov. John Kasich, who made national headlines for taking on the state’s labor unions, had narrow 44 percent to 41 percent disapproval rating in a Quinnipiac poll.

Fresh off his recall election victory, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker actually found his approval ratings back in the black, with voters approving 51 percent to 45 percent, of his job performance, in a Marquette University canvass.

But in a reminder that unpopularity can be bipartisan, in North Carolina, the left-leaning Public Policy poll found Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue with a 59 percent to 30 percent disapproval rating.

It’s not necessarily cause for concern, the Morning Call noted in another recent polling story: “Former Gov. Tom Ridge had similarly dismal ratings during his first year in office. He went on to serve two terms and Republicans controlled the Legislature for 12 years from 1994 to 2006.”

  1. Blair, I agree. You can only hide so long and it catches up to him. Tom is to busy taking care of his friends rather than taking care of the people that elected him!

  2. And what about Chris Christie? He is very popular in a Democratic state. Corbett can’t run away from his mis-handling of the Sandusky investigation
