Corman Moves Pieces Around the Campaign Chessboard

Late in the 1979 baseball season, the Philadelphia Phillies shook things up, replacing Danny Ozark with Dallas Green. In 1980, the Phils won their first World Series.

In 1990, the Pittsburgh Penguins said thanks to Gene Ubriaco and brought in Bob Johnson to man the ship. The Stanley Cup made its first appearance in the Steel City that season.

Could a shakeup in the Jake Corman campaign follow the same trajectory?

Back in October, Corman, 57, told Pennsylvania’s Republican congressmen that “he can clear a crowded field of announced candidates (for governor) and other Republicans testing the waters,” according to aides.

Uh, not to date.

According to Andrew Seidman at The Philadelphia Inquirer, at least five staffers and advisers have left the Corman campaign, including the campaign manager, political director, finance director, a fund-raiser and a scheduler. While some turnover is expected in any campaign, the numbers indicate that the race is much more challenging than initially anticipated.

Seidman wrote that talent still resides with the campaign, including senior advisor Mark Harris, a long-time strategist for Pat Toomey. Will Ridder, ad maker for the Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin’s successful campaign, and former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway are also still on board.

“It’s that time of year when those struggling to raise money start whisper campaigns about staffing,” Corman spokesperson Dave La Torre said in a statement. “We understand they’re desperate. When Jake has out-raised the next five campaigns combined, you just have to chuckle.”

The campaign has moved from its initial headquarters in Harrisburg to Pittsburgh where ColdSpark – Harris’ consulting firm – is located. Ryan Reynolds, a ColdSpark vice president, is the new campaign manager. Corman reported having $2.1 million in cash on hand entering 2022 – second among GOP gubernatorial candidates.

GOP insiders still think that many deep-pocketed donors are waiting for the race to become more clear before becoming involved. Bill McSwain did receive an endorsement and a cash infusion from The Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs. But others may be waiting for a sign. And how Corman’s moves are interpreted may be a harbinger of things to come.

  1. You sound like Doug Zubeck sitting at his computer dressed in his civil war memorabilia and waiting for Doug Mastriano to kick off the next Civil War.

You sound like a brainwashed wingbat.

Jake is a snake. But Doug Mastriano is the worst.

He should go back to working out the details on his book. I heard he just made up those facts too.

  2. Fake news. He actually helped care for people. Got people needing “non essential” Healthcare so they didn’t die, go blind or have other permanent damage done to their bodies. You should probably look into it by going directly to his page.Whats that guys name? I never heard of him. Doug fought to have an Audit in PA to expose the fraud. It would have been done by now if it were not for lying ass Jake the Snake who lied, fired Mastrianos staff, threatened his comittee members and locked him out of his conference room. Please do a little more research. There is a lot you don’t know.

Did you know Jake the Snake had a role in covering up the Sandusky scandal?

  3. Doug4Gov. NO ONE has had the peoples back like he has. He will blow this race out of the water. What did ANY of these others do while people were suffering under tyrannical lockdowns?? NOTHING! What did ANY of them do regarding a straight up stolen election? NOTHING

  4. I can not stand Corman’s political ad that includes his daughter and the ridiculous “dude”. So much so that I literally change the channel quickly so I don’t have to see it or hear it!! I will be less likely to vote for him because of this ad.

  5. Just a daily reminder…. Ding Dong Doug is an Insurrectionist…. So much so, the January 6th Committee wants to speak with him. DC is calling you Ding Dong Doug.

    1. I guess millions of us are sine we were all there. So stupid. Doug and his grassroots movement will mow the lawn with these other candidates. THEY DID NOTHING FOR US while we were locked down.

      1. Actually, Doug did nothing but talk on YouTube and make baseless accusations about voter fraud. See baseless accusations again.

Guy Ciarrocchi did something and no one seems to care. Those restaurant owners did something – they employed people. Doug did nothing but try to benefit himself.

          1. What fraud?
There is a horrible spaghetti monster in your head making you do things.

See? I can make stuff up with no basis for fact too.

  6. Will Ridder is really taken by the ‘Lil Sweet’ Dr. Pepper ads. Just an aside, Will “they suck”

  7. First of all, Dave LaTorre is a bully and the biggest piece of shit on the Eastern Seaboard and should not be allowed anywhere near what should be a quality campaign with probably the only guy that can beat Shapiro.

Second, that guitar ad is awful and it is a shame that his daughter was brought into it, as I am sure that it really wasn’t her idea – and we have all seen better versions of the same type of ad.

Third, I really believe that Corman is the only one that can beat Shapiro, who can make the claim that he has helped every family in PA as Attorney General. Corman has a solid record, is not a lunatic and can be a reasonable voice in the General Election – when Shapiro will be painted as liberal maniac.

    1. I agree with you 100%, the ads are an embarrassment, just like Corman himself, a do nothing hack .

      1. and a RINO is? It is such a moving target as fas as political labels go.

I recall Arlen Spector, in his last go around, being painted up by the PA R party as a RINO and the “real R conservative” was Mr. Toomey, who took Mr. Specter’s spot. A true R – right wing, rock-ribbed Regan conservative, free trade, anti-union, get big govt. off our back” type etc.

Now, after 2 terms in the Senate, Mr. Toomey, is now attacked within his own party as an out-of-step RINO too. I didn’t note any substantive changes in Mr. Toomey’s positions. What happened? Where did the goal posts move to now?

If the goal posts are now in Mar A Lago, is Mitch McConnell now a RINO because he’s not on board with Trump?

  8. Corman is another career politician who does what will win him the most votes. We need to elect someone who like Gerow or Martin who shares our values and will fight for us!

    1. It’s sad that Martin dropped out but I like Gerow and White. I just hope we don’t go for another RINO like Corman or life-long Democrat McSwain. Seriously, everyday the Harrisburg swamp is pushing another puppet of theirs on us

  9. The real question is, what elected official will Mike Rader bring down next?
He is the best thing to happen to democrats since Heinz’s helicopter.

  10. Barletta is lazy and can’t raise any money. He just drives around the state with his cheesy ass smile petting dogs and eating ice cream cones.

  11. You don’t need anything more than a tv or a computer to figure out the state of the Republican Party. It’s all Trump and the fact Corman is down 15 points to Lou and Mastriano is a disaster. He needs more than Dallas Green at this point. He needs Franco Harris “Immaculate Reception.” Primary works against Corman. Hardliners vote in a primary and right now they are Trumpers. Look at the Trafalgar poll. The R demographics say voting in the R primary will be folks 45 and older with 29% undecided. Lou and Mastriano are 15 points ahead of Corman. It looks like the staff changes are Corman shuffling chairs on the Titanic. Trafalgar poll is devastating to Corman’s ambitions.

      1. I found the part of the ad, “No new taxes” (screech) very invigorating and inspirational!
