PA looking big on the debt “super committee,” and the campaign committees kick into gear.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is ratcheting up their Medicare-themed messaging in four PA swing districts this month. The committee is targeting Reps. Charlie Dent, Mike Fitzpatrick and Pat Meehan with robocalls, and Lou Barletta with a radio ad.
The National Republican Campaign Committee is targeting Altmire over his opposition to the House GOP’s Cut, Cap and Balance measure, which the committee blames for the downgrade of the country’s credit rating.
PA stands to enjoy disproportionate influence over the debt “super committee.” Rep. Allyson Schwartz is seen a heavy favorite for a seat on the 12-member panel, and Senator Pat Toomey has a clear path to one of the Senate Republican spots.
Pro-choice flak for Casey; Toomey saw the sign; the Patriot News sticks up for Rep. Platts; and the Murphy ballot issue in Bucks Co persists.
Sen. Toomey introduced legislation today that if enacted would repeal U.S. Department of Transportation regulations requiring towns and municipalities to replace their street signs on the dime of local communities.
“Should the Democratic Party support anti-women politicians like Casey?” asked one DailyKos blogger about the Senator’s recent effort to codify the Hyde Amendment, “Or is it time to make our tent just a little smaller?”
Outrage and finger-pointing follow the S&P downgrade; good government groups gear up for Philly redistricting; and another possible Casey challenger on the radar.
Rep. Tom Marino (R-10) is spearheading an effort to have a freshman named to the “supercommittee”, the congressional committee that will be in charge of drafting spending cuts. The committee was created as part of the bipartisan agreement reached to raise the debt ceiling.
