DCCC Announces Multi-Million Dollar Ad Buy in PA

Democrats picked up a few seats in the U.S. House in Pennsylvania during the 2018 midterms and are hoping to hold onto those gains, plus flipping a few more seats in the upcoming election. In their quest to continue to add on to this progress in the Keystone State, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has announced a multi-million TV ad buy in the fall.

The DCCC announced it’s reserving $18 million for television ads in 15 media markets in the final weeks of the election cycle in several states, including Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania ad buy is currently the second highest of the states announced, only narrowly trailing Iowa, and includes three specific media markets in the state.

The largest broadcast television ad buy for the Pennsylvania market is Harrisburg with $1 million announced, making it the eighth highest market ad buy in the nation for the DCCC, followed by $910,000 announced for the Philadelphia market, and $400,000 announced for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton market.

Although the DCCC didn’t announce which specific races that they are targeting with this ad buy, The Hill report mentions Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Lackawanna) for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ad buy, Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) for the Harrisburg ad buy, and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) as the “likely target of the Philadelphia spending.”

While the DCCC announced this ad buy in late May, The Hill reported that the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is expected to announce its first television ad buy in the coming weeks.

In addition to the ad buys from the DCCC and the soon-to-be announced ad buy from the NRCC, a couple of PACS endorsed by each party have both announced significant ad buys in hopes to influence House races in Pennsylvania.

House Majority PAC, a Democratic super PAC endorsed by House Democratic leadership,  announced that they plan to spend $6.1 million in Philadelphia, $1.4 million in Wilkes Barre, $1 million in Harrisburg, and $1 million in the Pittsburgh markets in the fall.

Congressional Leadership Fund, a GOP super PAC endorsed by House Republican leadership, announced an ad buy that includes a $6.5 million reservation for the Philadelphia market and $800,000 for the Harrisburg market, although a spokesperson for CLF said that additional reservations will be made in the state later on.

  1. Brier wont beat Perry in November bc he doesn’t have York next to his name in the ballot. And he’s way too liberal to get shrink margins more than Scott did in 2018. DePasqaule is the only Dem who can win. Unfortunately his primary campaign was so inept and arrogant that moving forward they have lost credibility as being up to the task. And to think he was one of the dccc’s top targets. What does that say about the dccc? Looks like the blind are leading the blind.

  2. Russia. Impeachment. Virus. “Protestors.” National media on their side. Its a massive attempt to undermine a President who will win again. They cant buy the election for old “where-am-I” Joe Scranton.

    1. I am glad I got Biden at a 17-10 dog. In other words, for every buck I bet I will get a buck and half. That’s going to be the easiest money I ever made.

  3. Fitzpatrick was a disaster so DCCC making this purchase is smart. Fitzpatrick did not perform well and really flopped. There is no justification in this election season with the political winds in their favor for the Dems to not win Fitzpatrick’s seat. DePasquale needs help too so buying in the Harrisburg market makes sense. For all the advantages of a statewide officer to run neck and neck with Tom Brier was a dud result. Not to take anything from Tom Brier because he did great and maybe can still pull it off. So, spending in Harrisburg makes lots of sense for either candidate.
